Ferriby now 2-1 up against Marine!
Bad news boys Stamford have equalised 1-1.

All in all not a bad day at the office I suppose. Not lost any of our lead. Draw away from home versus Cod-pieces home draw and sending off to-boot. Marine lose and even Gateshead and Guiseley have still to complete their Trophy matches.
Oh yes, and the arabs can now concentrate on the league ;D as can Telford, beaten at home by Blyth ;D
Was at the game today - were so unlucky hitting the woodwork 3 times and had 3 decent shouts for a penalty turned down. The whole game was played in Stamford’s half. Having said that, we should have taken more chances - main one that comes to mind was Macca putting it over the bar from the edge of the box just before the Stamford goal.
Dominated the game throughout should have been at least 3 up at half-time.
2pts lost rather than 1 gained but thats how it goes, we will play worse than that and win on another occasion. We missed Peersy when we needed to sew the game up. Thought Lloyd and Macca had good games but MoM was Stevie Brodie and not just for his superbly executed goal from an excellent thro’ ball from sub Wood. Did’t see their goal properly due the crap floodlights.
UniBond Premier Division – Saturday December 15th 2007
STAMFORD AFC 1 WITTON ALBION 1 Attendance: 220
TEAM: Kennedy; Coo, Pritchard, Barras, Brownhill; Wilson (Wood 59), Lloyd, MacPherson, Brodie; Warlow, Thornley. Subs n/u Spearritt & Kearney MoM: Rob Lloyd
Kyle Wilson was handed the difficult task of filling in for Mark Peers at the Vic Couzens Stadium that thankfully had seen the frost thaw overnight. Not such a large body of Wittoners came down, probably due to the fixture being re-arranged, but even so without them the gate would have been well below the 200 mark.
With the sun setting, fully in Jon Kennedy’s face, surprisingly the home shooters didn’t try their luck early on and it wasn’t until the 16th minute that any real effort on goal came. This was an Adam Warlow 15 yard shot that screamed across the face of the goal narrowly wide of the far upright. Six minutes later Dave MacPherson from a central position 20 yards out also saw his shot go wide of the left upright. It was the right post that then saved the Daniels following Rod Thornley’s curler around keeper Chris Sanna. On the half-hour came the only real chance of the half for Stamford but Kennedy was alert enough and able to block as Leon Mettam got past Albion’s rearguard. The woodwork again came to the home team’s rescue in the 42nd minute. Thornley had lobbed the keeper however Scott Taylor got back to clear the ball off the line, his desperate kick away saw the ball strike the upright just far enough at the front to avoid the ball flying into the net. On the stroke of half-time a tremendous shot from Wilson saw Sanna pull off an equally good save to ensure the goal-less half.
Three minutes into the second period it was Rob Lloyd’s turn to be denied by the woodwork with his effort striking the crossbar. At the other end Kennedy again produced a good blocking save before Cavell Coo sent his effort just wide of the far left post. Mettam went close soon after but from the hour mark Albion turned up the pressure. Sanna went neatly to his left to push Lloyd’s shot wide before the midfielder sent a 25 yard dipping free-kick just over the bar. A minute later though Albion got the lead they so richly deserved. From deep in their own half Tony Barras lifted a free-kick to substitute Neil Wood, who in turn looked up and stroked the ball perfectly into the path of STEVE BRODIE who took a few paces before clinically driving the ball home across Sanna in the 75th minute.
Time and again in the following ten minutes Albion seemed to play an additional pass when really shots should have been on the agenda and they were nearly made to pay when a cross from the right fell straight to the head of Mettam but he only succeeded in heading fairly weakly straight at Kennedy. Dave MacPherson immediately countered but having worked himself into the edge of the box sent his shot well over the target. Stamford’s equaliser came in the next minute when following several attempts to clear by Albion, Robert Hughes struck home from the edge of the area with four minutes of normal time to play.
Summing up then it felt like two points were lost today but then it turned out that Fleetwood had done the same at home whilst Marine returned totally pointless from North Ferriby in what was yet another curtailed programme of UniBond football. Half way then and a haul of 49 points from a possible 60 is very nice thank-you!
Think this sums it up pretty well Eddie - overall the point away proved to be a reasonable result. 49 points from 60 is a tremendous return at the half-way stage. We will not need to repeat that in the second half to win the league!!! That said I still think this side can play even better than we have seen so far. We have Peers to return and Brown, getting Alex back will be like a new signing!! Considering he was arguably the best player in the first 7 or 8 games it will be a huge boost. I think Neil Wood will also be a useful asset when he gets up to full fitness. Whilst the Stamford defender perhaps should have cut the ball out yesterday it takes nothing away from the accuracy of it.
Having gone a goal up yesteday (only after hitting the woodwork 3 times), it was a shame not to hold on to the win. In fairness it kick-started Stamford’s best period of the game and they came strongly for the equaliser in the last 10 minutes.
I thought Brodie and Lloyd were both particularly good yesterday and in the absence of Peers I thought that Cav was brilliant for 80 minutes! The pitch was getting more difficult the longer the game went on, the temperature dropped considerably between kick-off and the end of the game, towards the end you could see how the harder surface was causing the ball to bobble.
I think the decisions made to get through as many games as possible (whilst the pitches have generally been very good) will prove to be a wise move by Jim and those involved. Pitches at this level in Jan and Feb may start to again be a problem and therefore points in the bag make it harder for those chasing. Plus with likely postponements we know how difficult a fixture pile-up can be!
Top at Christmas in a commanding position and not lost since the opening day in August - that’ll ding dang doo for me!!!

You’re a hard man to please Rabbit! Wood showed the defender a pass outside then played one inside him into the channel which made him practically trip himself up!!! Class. I hope this is a sign of what the lad is capable of. Although I do have to point out that their defender was their number 2 who is easily the worst player I have seen in this league this season. He did however produce a moment of genius to hit his own post…
It was a green-like through ball!
Know it does not make any difference but don’t know where Chad gets " after several attempts to clear the ball" from for Stamfords goal. Just seen the video - a cross from the right was headed straight to Stamford player ( could not make out by who ) who struck the ball first time into the net probably with the help of a deflection.
Oh for the luxury of being an armchair football pundit able to watch over and over again on the field action and then condemn players / referees / reporters who only can react there and then. I could have gone to town with last week’s report from the other camp but pickie pickie! Mark Lawrenson, Alan Hansen eat your hearts out you have another convert!
Reckon, if you manage to see all the build up, that the ball was around the Witton penalty area several times as I believe the move came down their left initially.
:-X
Very very unlucky on Saturday, could so easily have won by 3 or 4 goals. As long as we keep picking points up away from home and winning our home games then we’ll be fine
Why are we being so gloomy. Do we expect teams to lie down for us to walk all over them? It was a good result on Sat especially when you take into consideration Fleetwood dropping points at home…yes, that’s right AT HOME.
We are top of the league and will be on new year’s day…come what may. I’m sure we would have all taken that position at the start of the season, given the immense disappointment of losing in the play offs last time out.
By the way, if you’re going to Frickley, don’t forget it was this team’s time wasting, when 2-0 down with 20 mins to go, which cost us automatic promotion. I remember their captain screaming for someone to run the ball into the corner and looking at my watch in astonishment. Let’s get them beat!
Please, everybody on this forum it’s DEFINITELY not definately ! Sorry for the pedantry.
