Super Mike

A Wittoner from his head to his toes!! (sadly via a broken leg) All the best Mike.
WHS.

Right, i have been trying to get on here for 24 hours and have finally succeeded!! (That’s trying both from home and from work…but there’s nothing wrong with the site  ).

I went to see Mike last night, and he is in good spirits. He has been logging onto here, and has seen all of the messages people have posted - suffice to say he is very grateful.

His leg is very swollen at the moment, and he is making the most of the morphine!! He is hoping to come out today or tomorrow.

He isn’t in plaster, as the 34cm metal rod will support the bone as it mends.

He has had plenty of get well messages from former team mates and managers, and i think he has been a little overwhelmed at the support that he has received. Of course, the hard work starts now - and hopefully we can support him right back on to the pitch. Even if it’s just for one last appearance in the red and white.

He will get down to take in a game as soon as he can.

I will be bringing a card around on Saturday, and if people want to contribute a few quid towards buying Mike a little gift then there will be an opportunity to do so.

Just to add, it is worth mentioning John Yates here who in Mike’s words has been brilliant. Mike cannot speak highly enough of John, and would like to see John get some recognition for the support he gave to Mike on Saturday. If you get chance to speak to John at the game then make sure he knows we all think that he is doing a great job for Witton.

get well soon mike

all the best mike with your injury.

if your looking for a bit of light  work,
i think pritch is looking for someone to hold the ladders
while he paints the cover at the lostock end.

Goes without saying that people like John “Yatesy”, and the Doc are fantastic people to have on board and are Witton legends as well as being great guys and knowing what they are doing medically. Glad Mike is thinking so positive. You’d expect nothing else from another Witton legend who we all respect. Get well soon Mose!!

Considering the horrific nature of Mikey’s injury the surgery was successful. He has an intramedullary nail in which no nasty long scar and he will be back. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Interesting update but I’m struggling to understand it all!!

To translate:

He broke his leg.

And its been pinned

Thank you MM,pinned, as you rightly say, not plated which would have left a not so nice long scar.

Super, Super Mike…hope it’s going ok!

He’s had a bit of bad luck with an infection in the leg. I think the antibiotics are clearing it up now though.

Thanks for the update and good luck to Mike!

I thought I’d revive this thread to thank Super Mike for his thoughts in Saturdays programme and to wish him all the best! In my ever so humble opinion I’d rather have seen Super Mike start every game that Steve Foster started this season!!!

Mike’s a legend and hopefully his recovery his going well, love the fella to bits, a true gent and a true Wittoner who we desperately need to see back in and red and white shirt next season.

You can’t argue with Foster’s record, he scored 14 goals for Salford after joining them in March, including scoring in the last 9 consecutive games (helping Salford to win 8 of their last 9) and avoid any threat of relegation! He scored a total of 34 goals last season, so whilst I prefer Mike every day of the week as an individual, you cannot dispute Foster’s goalscoring ability.

If he would have scored 14 goals for us in the final two months of the season we would almost certainly have been in the play-offs! Reminiscent of Neil Black’s departure (and subsequent reappearance) at the end of last season.

It was good to see Mike at the game on Saturday, and have a quick chat with him.

The scars on his leg look nasty, but hopefully he will be back in November, scoring goals with his metal leg.

Yes Great to see you Mike and walking about so quickly after your injury. Also good to see you coaching the future striker i.e your little lad. Great just stay around mate the club needs people like you!!
