Target for the season

Think we are 1 pt behind Rabbits Target :frowning: but with 2 home games in hand ( Ashton and Matlock ):)we should get ahead. Rather than game by game the manager has set the players a target of reaching 30 pts asap and then another of 40 and so on.

I make us 2 points ahead of Rabbits target at the moment with the next 3 games heā€™s predicted a win, draw and a loss so 4 points from 9. Saturday will be another tough game, over the last couple of weeks Kendal have thrashed Hednesford 4-1 and then lost to FC United.

Well spotted Picko - just trying to wake somebody up on this very quiet website at the mo.

Still 2 pts up on the Target. How did The Rabbit know we would not beat Kendal when he is crap at the Predictions ?

Arsenal/Burnley was far too dull and therefore I thought I would take the opportunity to look back at the ā€˜Target for the seasonā€™ thread to see how far off I was.

Fair to say I thought (hoped) we would make a better start, we only picked up 3 points and not the 8 predicted in the first four games on the remaining list. That said we picked these points up in victories over Marine and FCUM (proving we are going to go about this the hard way)!

So here is how my predictions have gone so far;

A Ilkeston Town - Draw 1pt Lost 0pts
H Boston United - Win 3pts Lost 0pts
A Cammell Laird - Draw 1pt Won 3pts
H Bradford Park Avenue - Win 3pts Lost 0pts
A Leigh Genesis - Win 3pts Won 3pts
H Ashton United - Win 3pts TO BE PLAYED TUESDAY (Not counted and moved below)
H Matlock Town - Win 3pts Won 3pts
A Marine - Lose Won 3pts
H FC United of Manchester - Lose Won 3pts
A Eastwood Town - Lose Lost 0pts
H Buxton - Win 3pts Won 3 pts
A Boston United - Lose Drew 1pt
H Kendal Town - Lose Lost 0pts
A Frickley Athletic - Draw 1pt Lost 0pts

Predicted Points from the above games = 18
Actual Points from the above games = 19

Still to play;

H Ashton United - Win 3pts
H North Ferriby United - Win 3pts
A Matlock Town - Lose
H Whitby Town - Win 3pts
A Whitby Town - Draw 1pt
H Nantwich Town - Win 3pts
H Prescot Cables - Win 3pts
A Ashton United - Lose
A Worksop Town - Win 3pts
H Guiseley - Lose

On a positive note we have 6 Home and 4 Away to play, however 4 clubs still to come to WP are in the top 10 in the league and pushing for the play-offs at least!

My original predictions suggested we would win the next 5 Home games. If we could win the first two on the list in the next seven days then survival is possible.

I predicted 19 points from the games still to play, I think we would be safe with 15 further points (finishing on 48), however again 6 points this week (minimum 4) would be a massive step forward.

Get to WP and get behind the lads this week, two big games ahead!!!

Looking like Leigh and Prescot are doomed but it is very tight for the other 2 places. With both Boston and Matlock with tough away games we need a win against NFU on Saturday. Letā€™s hope we get a much bigger crowd than Tues agaist Ashton,we deserve it after that performance. Despite the poor crowd thought the noise levels were up, it certainly sounded like it on the highlights. Letā€™s have more of it on saturday.

Spot on Eli - all out for a win tomorrow. If we get a result then we take another big stride towards safety.

Bring it on!

Latest update of the target prediction;

We are currently on 39 points, 45 would probably see us safe but 48 must make sure. Critically we have 3 games now against a couple of teams below us. If we can win these then clearly it is also reducing the number of points they can achieve.

I had us down for 4 points in the next three games, if we could get 5, 6, 7 or 9 then I think we will be very happy. There is no reason why not. If necessary I would hope that we get points from the Worksop and Prescot games.

Our Whitby weekend would be more enjoyable if we were safe, although it may be the last trip up there for a while unless they pick up some points.

If we can finish in 12th or 13th place it will feel like winning the FA Cup after the start we had to this season!

:cheer:

Talking about the start of the season, I bumped into Nige Deeley this morning.

90 mins later, we parted company with him wishing all at Witton all the best for the rest of the season. (Heā€™s still behind us)

Think I would rather have Nige in front of me:laugh:

Nige will only ever be a true gentleman and a loyal wittoner. Whatever has gone on this season I hope we see him more regularly back at the ground. As a club we can benefit from Nigelā€™s long term association and on a personal level he is the friend of many. Nige picked up the pieces at the start of the campaign when we had no players, a new chairman, no money and a catalogue of off the field problems.

Whilst Gary was chosen to take over as manager the points we gained from the three wins under Nige at the start of the campaign will also be part of a points total that will hopefully keep us up and allow us to build for the future.

Hear hear Rabbit ! And also give him credit for Greg Smith,Gary Scott.Paul Booth,Thommo and Kieran Lugsden.

I think Booth was a Finley signing?

Donā€™t split HARES!

Iā€™ll get my coat!

Best centre half weā€™ve had in years though to be fair.

Second only to that big fella at number 4!

I do think Booth is a very good centre half, every now and again he is caught out of position and also perhaps could do with being more vocal, but overall his partnership with Pritch is a reason behind our progress. Look at how many combinations we played in the first dozen or so games and the goals we conceded.

Damn right Booth is the best centre half at Witton for a while. Pritch will be glad he is by his side, they form quite a partnership.

Think we need a song for Mr. Booth, no doubt there will be a few new player songs after the trip to Whitby

Target for the season is pretty straight forward now - 3 wins !
