team selection

not been to many games this season but one thing that cropping up is team selection,is the mananger picking his NORTON mates above players that are better.dont wont to start a row but is this the case.

I would imagine the aim is to put the best team out consistently. .

Who would you choose as the starting 11?

Spot on Posty this is getting ridiculous now, taking off Titch after 50 mins and bringing on a totally unfit (not my words but the words from a club official) Lee Cropper was crazy?!
Titch and Matthews up front would of been far more effective and to be honest this was the moment i knew we had lost the game, our attacking option was reduced to long balls hoofed towards Cropper who didnt win any that i can remember!

I think it’s quite clear Scott has rose tinted glasses when it comes to the ex Norton lads. It doesn’t matter how bad some have played, you can guarantee they will start the next game.

From Scotts point of view He obviously knows His Ex Norton players better and maybe He thinks he can get more out of them or that they can be better than seen by Wittoners so far and is trying to play them into form ? However from a Wittoners view point all we can see is that some of the players are in pretty poor form or not good enough but get picked regardless. Picking a team well I have already said we dont have the players to play 4-4-2 eg no decent left wing ( maybe Dawse ) and no left full back so I would go 3-5-2 to use the strengths we have.

Roberts

Chadwick Bainbridge Lycett (Centre backs)

Gardner Dawson ( Wing backs )

Diskin ( Holding midfield )

Roberts Andrews ( Attacking midfield )

Titchener Mathews (Strikers )

Bench : Green.Baker.Warburton.Cropper. Brownhill. Schofield

You can argue for Gards at centre back and Green at wing back but just prefer Gards at wing back for pace energy and aggression. up front Id go Titch and Mathews just for sheer pace, and if Cropper plays then we always push Titch back and waste his strengths eg pace of the last defender. It could be that we need another midfielder to play the holding role or give Warburton a run there ? to be honest I have not seen enough of him and of the rest -Diskin has the best energy and aggression in his game but soon we could have Tom Schofield for that role ! And of course Brownhill is now fit so He can play up front - but again cannot judge him yet not really seen him play. Give the ball into Danny and Gary and let them play and create havoc, and I am sure Titch and Mathews will score goals. UTA

I too cannot understand why Titch isn’t playing all of every game, he may be out of form but class lasts forever and he is class.
WHS.

The whole point is that Titch is at his fittest for some time looking sharp and dangerous and indeed scoring- if he was off form then that would be the explanation.

Correct me if i’m wrong but there aren’t many ex Norton players that regularly start for us, are there? Presumably Cropper is one and maybe a defender or two (and Baker?) but it seems to me the majority we have are players with us in previous years or have been brought in from elsewhere like Roberts and the keeper. Can anyone clarify this?

The ex Norton players presently with us are:

Danny Roberts, Niall Green, Darren Chadwick, Kyle Diskin, Chris Baker, Lee Cropper & Richard Smith.

Darren Chadwick came from Leek but has previously played at Norton.

Jon Beaumont also came from there but has since moved on.

So in a nutshell 4 ex Norton players started yesterday and 5/6 have started the league games I’ve been to this season. Therefore Posty Reds and others comments make more sense to me now. Thanks for the clarification Wheels.

Cant get too upset with Saturdays outcome it was always a tough tie that panned out the way most people thought it would.

I was upset to hear that 1 of our former players and now an FC player, was giving 1 of last years players stick for us getting relegated last year. :S

Looking forward to getting back into league action tonight , this is a big game tonight and these are a good side.

the starting 11 will be 1 to watch tonight with what happened saturday will titch start … he should. And also Warburton should be playing i will keep saying it.

I am still not sure about Warburton he obviously can play and in parts looks classy but he is a bit prone to giving the ball away and could maybe be a bit fitter I dont think these aspects helps his claim to be honest but can see he is decent, perhaps he needs more game time !

I think after tonights poor display/selection and half time fiasco that the manager and his actions and stubborness will cost him his Job-maybe tonight even.

What happened at half time CJ?

At 2-1 down and us struggling in some areas the manager sent them out after about 2-3 minutes to stand around for 10-12 minutes in the cold- I think that proved to be his last sorry act as the manager - it just did not work out again.

It’s been an open secret around the club (and I’m not close to it at all) that the bullet is in Mr Harris’s gun with Mr Dundas’s name on it for weeks.

If Ive heard it then no doubt he or his entourage must have!

In the same way Sully was aware of his fate a month before it happened.

Two poor appointments and a poor way to do business, but then again this club is unrecognisable at times from its ethos and roots.

Good Old Witton

Excellent post Chad sums the situation up. The club has never been at such a low ebb or position with only the recent community news the bright spot on the horizon. I just hope we can appoint an experienced manager who can hit the ground running immediately and get us in the top 8 by Christmas. Some succes on the field will have spin offs elsewhere and give the club a much needed fillup. Fingers crossed that the board have already had thoughts about a successor I know I have the Glossop game!!.

I think we need to be careful here.

There’s lots happening off the pitch that’s really positive and we are on the cusp of being in a really great position - far better than we have been since the early 90’s.

That progress is in danger of being ruined by the lack of progress on the pitch. Whether Scott could have done more, I don’t know and am not qualified to say. Good luck to Scott wherever he goes and hopefully he will succeed (but not against us !)

However, now is not the time to open old wounds or inflict new ones, but to stand together, stand up and be counted. If anyone wants to be Chairman then nominate at the AGM, or preferably get on the terraces to support who ever takes the hot seat !!

I think Scott was out of his depth at Witton and Mark had little choice but to change Managers now so at least the new Management team have time to get the season on track.
Scott was given one of the largest budgets in the league yet sides with far less money are coming here and tearing us apart!
His loyalty to his Norton lads was there to see, some poor substitutions just to give his mates a game was one thing i accused him of and after reading his comments in a Stoke paper today im convinced i was right, he says he knew his job was in jeopardy weeks ago but his worry was for his Norton lads, hes delighted they have all asked to be released in support of their manager!

If the rumours of who the new Management team are true then im very excited, in fact ive been buzzing all day long and im sure every Witton fan will feel the same, obviously we cant say anything on here till its all finalised but i have everything crossed!

Anyway onwards and upwards we have a massive game on Saturday and the team news will be highly anticipated considering half the squad have left, keep Danny, Gards, Titch, Dawson and the keeper and get the Development teams best players, i heard last night that Gary Roberts has committed himself to the club which is great news if true!

The first thing we must do is to get behind Paul Ogden, and give him our total support as he prepares the team for a game on Saturday, which has now taken on even greater significance.
