The Guardian.

I thought the local rag only had something against me in that it printed nothing at all about my book on our wonderful club but no, I look in today’s edition and all I can find is a tiny report on our game against National League Barrow and the rest all about 1874 and Vics! Those two clubs are two divisions below us, a reason given in the past why Vics got more coverage. Not only that they are in the same league as their “Hosts” Barnton and Winsford who get about the same coverage as us! Biased? You bet they are!!
WHS.

A bit unfair. We are still in pre season. They are playing against each other in the F.A Cup. Of course they will get more coverage. It’s obvious that this is a story that will interest people. If we don’t get any coverage when the season starts then you may have a point. Till then can’t see your problem

We got NO PUBLICITY whatsoever for the book despite an interview being given and photos taken. For God’s sake those two teams are in the same league as Barnton!! We played a National League side the other night, not a team in a “Dog and Duck” League. The excuse for the bias was always we were in a lower league, we are now two divisions higher and still second best as far as the Guardian is concerned, third best in fact!!

Our season doesn’t start for another week. Why would we get publicity this week when we are only playing meaningless friendlies. I understand you hate both Northwich teams. Not at all keen on them myself but I don’t see it as a slight towards Witton. Just an opinion though

I think the balance of coverage is fair, the previous week there was hardly a peep about V*cs or 1874. Maybe the book will be covered in future editions or online if they have the gen?

You are taking rubbish WHS. I would expect an FA Cup Tie between two local sides to interest the local paper. We can’t compete with that this week because we don’t enter the FA Cup until September as befits a club of our higher status!
And you know. .I wouldn’t be surprised if the game at Barnton gets more coverage next week than our friendly at Droylsden. Just forewarning you there for the good of your blood pressure.
As for the book, maybe you could mention it on here a few times. That might help publicise it.

Of course they’re going to get more coverage than us this week.
The fact that its a cup game between a club formed by fans playing the team they all use to support only adds to the interest in it.
It also shows the attraction of the FA cup and why its such a wonderful competition with its ability to throw up ties like this.

I wouldn’t expect the Guardian to do it any other way

Just an opinion, but three separate reports, one of which was just about a forward promising to score goals strikes me as bias. Meanwhile, our two games got about six lines all told. We shall see what the future editions contain. As for pushing the book on here, if the local press won’t print the story they were given what else could I do? It may seem I am going over the top about the book but it has already raised over £300 for the club and will make around £1,000 if we can get it to sell out which would have been easier with a bit of help from our local paper!
