The New Vics

I see they only managed a 1-1 draw at home on Saturday but the gate of 490 was a bit of a shock. One thing for certain it means curtains for the “Real” Vics as I cannot see many going to Flixton when they can go to Winsford which means 1874 are the club we should be concerned about. Comments?
WHS.

Honestly who gives a toss what they are doing?

While i admit 490 is an impressive attendance it was the first ever game for a new club so i would expect a decent attendance.
Its how many of the 490 will still be there on a wet Tues night in January, esp if the team arent near the top of the league

When the FA considered Darlo as a new team (which we are not!) first attendence at home was over 2000. Nowt special from kronenberg 1874. They’ll be sub 200 before we know it especially with more results like yesterday.

How can 1874 kronenburg, or anyone else for that matter, be “the new vics” when Northwich Victoria fc is still in existence? I might be wrong but hadn’t the likes of chester, telford and darlington folded completely before starting their new clubs? I hope my words don’t come back to haunt me but I just can’t see how 1874 will become one of the most famous non league clubs in the land, as the vics once were. They have a split fanbase and don’t play in Northwich for a start. I agree with jonny on this one, leave them to it and lets concentrate on northwich’s premier football club.

Darlington didn’t fold, just got booted from the league due to cva etc not been agreed. All debt is still with the club with a view to most creditors getting paid especially local businesses.

I see what you are saying that 1874 aren’t a new team but I think they will be attracting bigger crowds than Vics this season.

Three teams carrying the clubs name, none of which play in the town! It’s a great opportunity for Witton Albion to seize hearts and minds of those Northwich folk who are looking to watch their football locally. My personal feeling is whilst 1874 won’t be a threat on the pitch, they may grab some fans that would head for us. They have a great way of promoting their brand at every opportunity, something which we need to do as much as we can.

Agree with Rabbits opinion. 1874 do seem to be trying to promote themselves and to be fair you cannot blame them for trying. If a new family came to live in Northwich and wanted to watch some local football and had a wander around town they might see the Vics shop and might be tempted to travel to Winsford go to watch them? I appreciate there are many Wittoners doing an excellent job of promoting the club in many ways (including the Guardian to be fair) but there seems precious little evidence of promotional stuff around the town (signage etc). SBL

We do put up posters, but agree we don’t have any real signage in the town. We did discuss hiring a bill board last season to promote ourselves. They were too expensive though.

Once I’ve handed the programme over the Dave it’ll be something I’ll be looking at so any ideas or help would be gratefully received

There is a poster in another thread on here which anyone can print off and put in local shops/chippys/pubs etc.

When im at work I can print colour ones, and will print some throughout the season. I’ll bring them down to home games and they’ll be advertising the home matches for the next month.

If everyone took one and got it into a local shop/chippy/pub we’d cover the whole of Northwich in no time!!

Some people did say that the red background uses too much ink which is a fair point so there’s a white version attached here if preferred.

1874, with their shop presence in town, their amazing crowd for their first game CANNOT be dismissed out of hand and if we do we will regret it in the long term! Posters should be more general such as “THE PREMIER FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE NORTHWICH AREA, WITTON ALBION AT WINCHAM…” to try and attract new Northwich people to ther Albs. The Super Mike posters are superb for Wittoners but we must “pounce” and try to get neutrals over to Wincham Park. As an aside the “Old” Vics and Villa at Flixton are totally irrelevant!

How much is it to advertise on a large hoarding? maybe we could ask for donations from supporters, im thinking along the line of ‘Welcome to Manchester’ ones that City used?
Maybe a Welcome to Northwich one with Wittons details on, where to find us etc

490 is impressive and although I doubt they will get this every game, they only really need 100+ to be easily the largest revenue club in the two leagues below the Evo Stick north/south.

In addition to this they have a sad story and a lot of sympathisers and will no doubt use this [just as we would] to seek help from wherever and whoever they can.

There are no gurantees but It is not unrealistic for them to shoot through the two leagues, carry a crowd with them and use their ‘sad story’ to engineer a public/private funded move back to Northwich.

Of course they could languish mid table for a few seasons and end up with a crowd of 50 but we can not assume this will be the case and apathy is not the answer.

What can we do about it?

Take advantage now and work as hard as they are to attract fans to the only Football Club in Northwich

Get involved in all areas of the local community

Complain bitterly if public money/facilities/favours are used to subsidise them

490 may prove a one off but there’s certainly a fervour at the moment .1874 are dominating Twitter ,literally tens of tweets a day and constant match reports, pics etc. a mate of mine commented several weeks ago that his season ticket was numbered176,if that’s indicative of the number of s/t holders it’s impressive. The welcome to Manchester posters tended to backfire when Carlos refused to go on the pitch so WAFC communications plan needs to be well thought through .HEres my comms plan - stop all the bitching and all this obsessive forum topic stuff and ignore them as currently it’s looking like rabbits in the headlights !

I say leave them to it! Witton are the number one team in Northwich and they got there through sheer hard work and honesty! There’s no point in worrying about them. If they want to challenge us then great. Maybe that old rivalry needs sparking up again! It will get people talking and hopefully get more through the gates.

As a Yorkshire based Wittoner who has never lived in Northwich I can’t comment on who follows which team.
I suspect that green families and their friends will support a green based team of whichever shade and enlightened red and white families and friends will enjoy following the mighty Albion.
I have always found a more profound problem is getting people to understand just how good non league football really is and what value for money it is compared with the professional game.
I think we do address this through junior teams’ involvement on match days etc so we are on the right track.
The big advantage we have is being the local team with excellent facilities so we must carry on playing to our strengths and we will grow steadily.

Lets look at this for moment. It’s like when we were kids getting a new toy at Christmas, it’s the best thing since sliced bread at first, but then slowly after a while you started to get bored with it until eventually it’s sat in a cupboard or on a shelf somewhere for months gathering dust. Let them have there moment but I am pretty sure things will die down eventually.
Let’s not forget they don’t own their own ground ,first thing first there’s rent to pay before any other overheads and crowds of 400 without their own home is not going to provide the finances to enable them to progress as quickly as some people think. The fan launched clubs who have been successful (i.e chester, Telford) have much bigger fan base in a one city/town club. At the moment northwich is split three ways, many people I know who are original v**s fans are refusing to watch the new team.
We have a club that is run from top to bottom in a professional and honest way and long may that continue .
