‘The Tea Hut’ iam sure my grandad told me when I was younger that he used to help run ‘The Tea Hut’ at the Central Ground (but i was only a kid so it may not be correct)
I had one of those rattles until Gil Prescott, who had just borrowed it used it to defend himself from a wayward shot by Paddy Daly; result? one broken rattle!! Depending on how old you are if he did he would have been doing it with my Mum and my Auntie Queenie if it was at the Ash Street end.

Killer was my favourite player at the CG too, hard as nails, an opposing striker would get the better of him once then wouldn’t dare again after being booted in the air several times! I remember Killer scoring once and doing a helicopter style celebration round the pitch me and my mates were in hysterics.
The goalie above was before my time, the first one I saw between the sticks for the Albs was Mike Sherlock. He was class too, he didn’t wear gloves when i started watching  There were some very good players in that team or played for us shortly thereafter, Neil Parsley and Mike Whitlow to name just a couple.

6)DJ always playing “you win again” by the bee gees after every victory - this carried on at wincham park for a few years i think.
Tez Wilkinson[/quote]
In addition to that song I remember a couple of Sinitta songs (simon cowells bit on the side) played very frequently in the mid to late eighties on the tannoy. Think they were called so macho and toyboy! Probably the worst pop songs in history, and abit too similar, but i always think of the Central Ground if i ever hear them nowadays!
Blimey, WHS - I’m going back a LONG time!
I was trying to rack my brains to remember the team of the time (I used to know it off by heart - a bit like Golden Gordon!!) - if i recall correctly it was something like:
Mellor; Davey, Lambert; Barnes, Nicholl, Goryl; Rimmer, Tynan, Ogden, Wheatley, Daly.
I’m not completely sure if Rimmer played at outside right - can you refresh my memory?
We’re talking 65/66-ish here!..
I think you have it spot on. I go back further, Radcliffe, Chew, Alf Ashley, Robinson, Cowden, Joey Dale, Frank Fidler et al. I was only 6 or 7 but my Mum and Auntie Queenie took us kids every week to home games. I don’t remember any away games, not even the Drill Field, my Mum would never set foot there! I do vaguely remember going to Crewe on a bus to watch a final and singing “Jingle Bells” on the way back. It is about “watching Witton win away” I sing it to my Grandkids now, the eldest thinks it’s hilarious.
WHS.
Ha Ha my grandad used to tell me that he would never step foot on the Drill Field I remember forcing him to go with me in the 90’s (to watch Witton in a Cheshire Cup Final i think!) and he told me that we would have to burn the shoes we wore to go the game in.
The team you have named there were the players that I was brought up to stories from my grandad, he used to tell me that even though the early 90’s team were good that they weren’t a patch on Radcliffe, Chew, Schofield (i think), Ashley, and of course Frank Fidler.
There used to to be a wooden shed type thing at the top of the grassy hill end that had a tee-shirt pinned to the inside of the roof…It said “Vics make me puke”
Still true to this day

Wonderful pictures. What year were they taken?
WHS.
Pass. I was given a load to scan on for the Calendar. These were some of the ones I got done. Loads more to come…
Possibly 1989
I think I still had some hair then so the bloke on the right behind the goals isn’t me!
WHS.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t even born when we left the CG! Great to see planty of pics though. I often think how different it would all be if we could just stumble out of the Penny Black at 2.45 on a Saturday afternoon!
If Sainsbury’s ever go bust perhaps we could move back!!
WHS.
Brilliant pics, they bring back some very happy memories indeed. Makes me realise how lucky we are to be Wittoners having had the Central Ground as a big part of our history and Wincham Park currently.
How true. But the Central Ground is part of a our great past, Wincham Park is part of a our great future.

The future is bright! But I do miss the Central Ground too
Sadly the only Central Ground goal on YouTube, I thought you old fogies would like to see it!
