Whilst historically there has never been a reason to celebrate the success of NVFC, on this occasion I would beg to differ from that perspective. Since the resumption of the latest tenancy agreement, volunteers from both teams have worked tirelessly to improve Wincham Park for the benefit of all of us and their success directly has impact on our well being with improved bar takings etc.
So hats to to Brian, the volunteers and his team for their result yesterday !

Well done VICS! Now through to the semi final of the FA Vase,which is 2 legs home & away. I am sure it will be a good gate for the home fixture, generating a good bar take in the social club.
Its good at the moment that the 2 clubs are working together to generate income for each other.

I think we have to realise the situation Witton are in simply cannot continue without the Vics money,
After a run of very good results the crowd last night was embarrassing, I used to go almost every game home and away until changing careers last year so I was looking forward to a rare game yesterday, the Social Club had a dozen or so in at 7 30pm which is worrying but inside the ground wasn’t much better!
There is no way Witton will be around in 20 years time as there’s hardly any new blood coming through the turnstiles so once again we are left with the age old problem of how to keep going on smaller budgets every season!
Vics are on a high right now and had at least 650 fans in the 719 attendance on Saturday, they sang throughout the game and Wincham Park was bouncing, i was at the game as a guest due to me driving the Vics supporters coach in the Vase run and they certainly spent a fortune in the Social Club before and after the game!
This town cannot keep supporting all the teams in the area, 1874 are on a downward slope and are pretty irrelevant now the old Vics are under decent ownership and are building the old fanbase back up.
In my opinion and also others I have spoke to recently it’s about time old rivalries are put aside for the good of the town and serious consideration about a merger, just like the 2 clubs in Osset have done, yes people will refuse to watch a merged team but many still will and new people to the area will also come to watch as they won’t have to choose to be a Red or Green!

You have to face reality.
The month of February has seen some good results for us, especially the 3 away wins, and with beating the League leaders on Saturday, you would have expected a bumper gate at last nights match. However, the gate was only 244! We cannot make ends meet with those type of gates. Where I was sat in the stand, I was surrounded by Buxton fans, and I believe they brought well over 50 fans. We need the VICS money to survive…simple!!!
For me the time for any possible merger would have been before Vics moved from the Drill field, the subsequent shenanigans shamed the football community not only them. If the football authorities and the law of the land had had any sense or decency then Vics should have been would up (on several occasions). Yes they are now what they are but it ought not to be that way. If they had been wound up a phoenix club could have emerged as the new legitimate Vics instead of what has happened. I don’t know anything about the Ossett clubs and what has happened in the past but good luck to them. As for there being no Witton in the future, then why not just paint Wincham Park green and hand the keys over now just to save any trouble.
Some interesting points here. Must just mention about new blood coming through. We run a Junior Membership scheme, currently running at about 125. Already pledged for next season will be more than double that. Most of the time, 1 free junior brings along on average 1 paying adult, plus the extras eg chips, pies, programmes, beer etc. Very noticeable on a mid week game only a few turn up as its school day next day, and therefore fewer adults come. However on a Saturday match we usually have 20+ juniors and similar extra adults. This will certainly be much better next season, as this scheme only started mid way through this season. The other topics you raise are worthy of additional debate.
It seems so long ago now that we had both teams in the equivalent of the national conference. I think if we now wrapped every mid Cheshire team into one it would be questionable whether, even then, there would be sufficient support and resources to maintain a team at that level. I think what is also evident is that unless there is a new model for mid Cheshire football, there never will be a team at that level again anyway !
My next question is therefore what does the MId-Cheshire/Cheshire FA think the value would be of building a St George’s Park type complex in MId-Cheshire given the parlous state of local football. Who will benefit? Who will pay? How will it be supported and maintained? Providing another stadium to stand ruinously empty for long periods seems untenable. If they are to fill it up, how will that happen? Will that further drain resources for our current portfolio of teams, rather than providing a springboard for the future?
I understand the reticence to think about mergers and amalgamations etc, but something has to be done to re-energise football in our locality otherwise we may not have much to shout about very soon. As a start, we must learn to enjoy success wherever it’s achieved.
There is needing another team for the income and actually now supporting them. Or am I missing the point here? Honestly I hope they get beat in the Semi Final, never will I understand this support for another club whether it be those green scumbags or any club.
As for expecting a bumper crowd at home on a Tuesday in February, you need to lower your expectations ha ha! We have been dreadful at home scoring 13 goals (i maybe wrong on that?) That may have a factor in the crowds being poor.
We have had a good season for me personally the cup runs were brilliant especially the day out at FC Utd, I dont understand where all this merger stuff is coming from? Once they’re out of the Vase it will business as usual with 100 attendances, like the massive 150 they had there last night.
