Thanks for that Paul, Is there no league rules in relation to playing at your home ground?
My understanding was that the League had run out of patience in December with Leigh, after all the false promises and dates.
Equally how long can they survive when paying rent to other clubs and getting double figure attendances? I know in reverse the answer would be a matter of weeks!!!
Leigh to Ashton is about 25/30 miles. If it were a one off more fans would probably go but its now becoming virtually every home game and even the diehards are becomong disillusioned.
As far as the league goes I think they are being very sympathetic to Leighs plight. Allegedly new investors want to come on board but like the old regime are banging their heads against a wall trying to deal with Wigan Council, who are treating the place as a cash cow and not the “community” facility that was promised at the outset.
For example I have been told unofficially that against FC United, crowd 1302, the club just about broke even. So against Hednesford, the only other game to have taken place there, crowd 344, you can imagine how much the club lost. At both games there were nearly as many stewards as the Reebok for a premier league game.
If it sends out any message at all it is the vital importance of being in control of your own ground, as I know you all know.
I dont mean to burden you with other teams problems but from socialising with you all earlier in the season I know what a sympathetic lot you are. All the Best for the rest of the season !!
Sorry Andy, to answer your question as far as I know the clubs expenses apart from players wages are guaranteed by the previous owner until the end of the season, so theres no immediate danger of the club folding.
Obviously the league wont allow this mess to continue for another season, so something needs to happen fairly quickly
