It’s not really FCUM’s fault, but this ridiculous series of postponements and now abandonments has had huge repercussions for fans and other teams beyond Witton and United. I dare say there are rules in this case, but the moral decision would surely be to have it at Wincham Park, but does morality have any place in the game?
It’s Fc Utd’s home fixture, and Bury have no game scheduled, so I assume it will be at Gigg Lane .sick .
The rules say that it should be played at the same ground if its abandoned before 90 minutes, although the Professional Game Board can vary this if they choose. I expect the ‘same ground’ part is relaxed for FC to keep home advantage. Like you say, not really their fault and they deserve to retain home advantage. BUT, the weather for Bury on Tuesday is “heavy showers” and it wouldn’t be surprising if it couldn’t go ahead. The FA should probably step in and say its nobody’s fault, but the chances of getting the game on are increased if its at Witton, so if we can agree it with the police and arrange it in time, it makes sense.
Is this a record - two games abandoned in consecutive seasons against the same opponents???
Don’t think the ref had much choice really.
Least we are in the hat for the 3rd Qualifier ! :woohoo:
We’ll be in the final draw if this carries on!
anyone know what the gate was?do we get a share of the takings?
Attendance was 650, shocking really not sure if we get 50%
I guess the FA trophy isn’t important to the fc thousands!!?
enjoyed the game, we showed that we are a match for the better teams in this league
but why oh why did two or three witton supporters mar the game when the referee was giving it a chance for play to resume by shouting obcenities to him, all that they did was make themselves look stupid and irritate the fans from both clubs that were around that area. the stupid part of it was that the referee would not have heard them- he was down at the other end of the pitch, so if you wish to tarnish your selves then please do it elsewhere an d not bring disrespect to witton albion.
Let’s just hope the next part of the saga is at Wincham Park!!! Gigg Lane isn’t fit for Sunday League football! Let’s hope the FA for once show common sense and get this game finished!!!
I’ve just read the FA rules on cup matches and replays. It states:
If a replayed cup match is abandoned before the completion of 90 minutes, the subsequent replay of the abandoned game shall be played on the same ground. If the 90 minutes have been completed, then the choice of ground for the replayed game can be determined by the toss of a coin.
Surprised how good the pitch was before the game. A credit to the ground staff considering the rain we had this week. I thought that FC were a better side overall and we were hanging on at times. In saying that they are vunerable at the back. I thought that the refeee should have called the players off before he did. The lightning storm was right over us and I thought that from a health and safety point of view the game should have been stopped sooner. SBL
doesnt this fiasco highlight how the whole situation of phoenix clubs having no ground of their own, should be overhauled ? I can have some sympathy with an existing club that loses their ground fighting to carry on. But to allow groups of fans with a gripe against their existing club to take their ball home and start their own club and yet have no home of their own is just ridiculous! maybe they should introduce a time limit of say, 5 years to get their own ground or be thrown out .That might make them think twice about spending all their money on trying to win everything with top paid players (relative to their league) instead of planning for the long term. in this case it is witton who are paying the price, not least in fixture pile ups. (sorry for posting on your comments, not aimed at you personally. just not very good with computers) anyway be interesting to know what other loyal fans think.
Now confirmed on the FC United website, the replay is at Gigg Lane, Bury on Tuesday, 5th November with a 7.45pm kick off.
how can that be.rules state abandoned games have to be played at the same venue.sounds like big club little club syndrome.
In these circumstances the game should be played at the same ground, if it says it’s at Gigg lane we shouldn’t play, and we should be granted a bye to the next round, what a pathetic farce (by the FA not FCUM)!!
I’ll just be glad when this tie is over and done with!
What a load of crap!
Agree with much of what swampy says, why should we be penalised by having a fixture pile up because another club hasn’t got their own ground? Have a certain amount of sympathy for FCUM’s position but they have been going several years now and it was obvious from the outset they were going to be very well supported. Surely there should be a time limit for new clubs like FCUM to get their house in order, rather than others being penalised for them not doing do. In this instance us.
Get over yourself. FC united have been a brilliant addition to non league and hopefully will be in our league for years to come which ever one we are in !!
