Versus Lostock

I have to say I was impressed last night by how tight our defence was and by Shaun Tuck. Cavell Coo (Is that how you spell it?) and Connors were pleasant surprises to me though the fact that Woods was talking to Altrincham was an unpleasant one, I hope it is untrue as I haver a lot of time for the lad. Several players looked out of their depth, I won’t mention names but overall I liked what I saw.
By the way, does ANYONE know who is offering 40-1 against us winning the league because I can’t find that offer. Whoever is offering those odds is in for a severe shock in my opinion.

Early pre season friendlies are purely there to get players match fit and have a general look at how things fit together.

No great store should ever be taken from them imo. If we’d not won at Lostock yesterday equally it wouldn’t have meant anything.

I think when you look at our first 7 league games there should be a bit of a reality check there tbh. Some good teams, established in the division with big budgets, lets not burden this team and its management with too much expectation.

How we can possibly say that the odds are wrong without seeing 90% of the teams we’re up against is beyond me!

Lets keep our heads down, keyboards quiet and hopefully spring a surprise or two.

Matt woods leaving would be a blow, but Brians track record of signings is excellent, not sure we have ready made replacemnet in house ? still think you are being over ambititious in looking at the title WHS this is a tough league with some good rich/ambitous clubs already there, we dont need massive expectations on us lets just go about our business quietly as usual.

Matty Wood would be a massive loss but I feel that the young lad Glover did very well in the few games I have seen him play, but yes have to agree the Lostock game was more just for the fitness than anything else.

tuesday 17th july, runcorn 3 marine o. :woohoo:
what can you read into that freindly?.

Woody will be missed if he does go to Moss Lane. However we have picked up Cav Coo, our first choice right-back from the 2007/08 season when we destroyed this very league, apart from one team. Cav will do the job.

OK with Cav Coo but i dont like a right back at left back it rarely works unless the player is exceptionally two footed, i did think maybe Glover would get a chance seems a very promising player imo

Brownhill?

And there was once a fella called Dennis Irwin who did quite well…

I don’t quite understand? If the Bookies say we are 40-1 what are they basing their assessment on? It’s a guess in my opinion based on the fact that we finished 3rd and got up via the play offs and not on the FACT that we were by far the best footballing team in the league. I put no pressure on the players or the management but merely express my confidence in them. I will be placing a tenner on them at 40-1 if I can get those odds and pledging half the winnings to the squad, £200. If ten do it, £2,000, if a hundred do it £20,000!!! Not a bad incentive to the squad in my opinion. We have a good team, a great manager and a great back-room staff along with the best supporters in the land so even if it is only for a few weeks let’s be positive and only start thinking about mid table when we have to.
WHS.

Yes Brownhill, irwin Exceptionally two footed ? I hope Cav is as well and not just pushed to the left to do a job that would upset the balance imo ?

Yep, he played left back for the majority of his United career despite being right footed.

I get the point i really do  lets see how cav does if indeed Matt leaves.

My money is on Matty staying unless he is offered “Silly Money”.
WHS.

Maybe, but why is he talking to them if he did not get an idea they can pay the money he wants footballers generally know what clubs will pay, sad if he goes after apromotion and he is so well liked by the fans. The only thing that might be in our favour is he is guaranteed a start with us not so sure at Alty.

I think if a higher-ranked club comes in for you then any player is going to want to hear what they have to say.

However, Alty will have to put 7 days notice in before speaking to Matty, surely?

Good work out for the lads. Glad to see Schofield and Glover playing because these two young lads will be our future. They are already good players but need to continue gaining experience and take their chance when they get in the 1st team which they will as footie is a squad game now.Cavell and Stevie C did ok too nice to see them back and we will probably see Stevie move on to higher things eventually but hey ho at least we’ve got him for a while. Also impressed with the effort of Joe Shaw and Shaun Tuck even though it was a friendly these two guys were really giving there all and will fit into the squad nicely so a big welcome to both.
Big worry for me is Matty Wood. Got to be honest beginning of last season I thought Matty was not very discplined and went forward too much without ensuring there was cover and his defending was not that good. He turned this round with experience and he is now with out doubt the best left back in the Evo Stik league. To lose him would be a big blow to our style of play. Matty if you read this I’m now one of your biggest fans. You’ve worked hard to correct flaws in your game and I think you are brilliant. All the fans do too and your so well liked at our club. Please don’t go stay for at least another season and continue to improve your game. That way you might get a shot at a higher league than the likes of Alty who in my opinion are going nowhere. You know it makes sense because Witton will not stand in your way if its right look at Titch for an example. You can go as high as him but Alty no chance stay mate!!

Could not agree more MONA, stay Matty.
WHS.

i agree with the preceeding posts and would like to see matty stay, but if he feels that a move to altrincham is for him so be it, and i would wish him all the best in his career in the future. however, i tend to think if he stayed with us for this coming season, with him playing like he has been, a bigger and better club than alty would come in for him.

Don’t think alty would a great move better clubs watching players from this side players want to stay as gards proved by turning droylsden down last season

it was matty woods who turned droylsden down last season.
