Vics at Wincham Park

There are some interesting rumours regards the future of our local rivals - if these are to be believed then the club may shortly find themselves back in a position where they are looking for somewhere to play!

With all that has happened in the past would you welcome them back to play their home games at Wincham Park?

Runcorn Linnets FC have paid us to have a retainer on the use of Wincham Park for 2008/9.

GE

I am pleased about that, whenever I have bumped into a Runcorn official/volunteer at the ground they are always pleasant, not something I always found when the rentboys were squatting.

Just wondering from a purely selfish view-point; but would it not be more financially rewarding for Witton if Vics were sharing?

I know Runcorn have paid a retainer, but what if Vics were to refund this to them?

If having Vics sharing were to result in a higher wage budget for Jim, then surely it would be worth investgating - if it does come to that of course.

If they are liquidated I would imagine that the fans and supporters’ trust would aim to set up a new club for next season, but I doubt that they would be aiming for a league which required the level of facilities at Wincham Park, I think they would be looking for somewhere quite a bit cheaper. It would not make financial sense for them to rent a ground any ‘better’ than their new league’s requirements. Possibly Winsford (if aiming for North West Counties), or Middlewich / Barnton if forced to restart at a lower level.
All pure speculation at the moment of course.

Very interesting, albeit hypothetical debate at the moment. My opinion is that while the extra revenue would be welcome, we have existing commitments to Runcorn, so it probably is a non-starter.

I do have some sympathy for the genuine fans who have been sh*t on by MC,…

However, after all the bile and criticism that came from the vast MAJORITY of the scumbags when they moved to "The Theatre of Connett", I would say b****cks to them. We helped them out last time and got ridiculed for it. Every aspect of WP has been derided by them on their website, from changing rooms, parking, pitch, terraces, stand, bar to tea huts. Let them swivel and see how they like it down at Chinkas!

Maybe they could attempt to share with another team that we helped out of a massive hole that they had also dug for themselves some ten years back. Now - at last! - Nantwich Town are promoting their new Weaver Stadium to the full. "The new new Danebank on the Weaver" kind of flows eh?

I think Sprucey has got enough fertiliser - we don’t want anymore sh*te on the pitch !

Too right Me - Runcorn have always been a lot more complementary and plesant.

The money is welcome but we can not rely on it - we did it once, that is enough, look at the thanks and respect we got.

How ironic that they always call Wincham Park the swamp yet its them that are going under!

I feel that the money would be good for us, however, if Runcorn still want to play at Wincham Park then I say we should allow them to continue playing and tell Vics "tough luck"

We do not want scums at WP. I entirley agree with Eddie C’s feelings.
Runcorn Linnets are decent and appreciative bunch.they are welcome.
Keep scums off WP please.

Some very interesting responses to this.

I would certainly agree that if Runcorn have paid us a retainer and given their commitment to us then the last thing we should do is renege on the deal - this would be the business approach of many but we should behave with integrity.

Having said the above, a ‘new Vics’ (should that happen) is still likely to attract more fans than Runcorn and therefore there may be more income opportunities. There will be few options open to Vics in terms of ground opportunities (not that this is our problem), whereas given Runcorn’s fan base they may be able to find a suitable alternative.

That said, I return to the first point, if they have paid us a retainer we should honour this.

Although we would be able to earn more money through a ground share with Vics than with Runcorn, if we turf Runcorn out just for that when they have already paid us, it would feel like something Mr Connett would do, and I for one, do not want to feel like that.

Even though vics would bring more fans to the stadium than runcorn currently do, i think that we should honour Runcorn paying us a retainer and not let vics come back to play here. If we do chose to have vics play at the stadium instead of letting Runcorn remain here i feel that it will be a bad decision, and even though the money may be good we would regret it with other aspects and burdens that will come with letting vics play at the stadium. I say let them find somewhere else to play such as moss farm if needs be, i just don’t want them back at our stadium.

Hear hear.
Well said witton_maniac.
Kepps the scums off our land.

Today i have heard that connet has put vics up for sale, and i was wondering is anyone knew if this is actually correct?

Yes it is correct, here are a couple of recent posts from the Northwich Supporters’ forum :

It is in the public domain that a winding up petition was put to the Court on Monday.

I can also tell you that I spoke with a representative from Begbies Traynor with regard to purchasing the football club and the debt in my opinion is far too much for anybody to save the club. I have now ceased my interest in buying the club.[/i]

I know Runcorn are doing everything they can to raise funds to be able to move back home to Runcorn and will hopefully one day be able to achieve that goal but in the mean time we should not let them down just because the fools across the canal have once again got themselve in whole heap of trouble. Just to show the difference between the two sets of supporters I thought I’d reprint one of the quotes from a fan on the Linnets website;

without Wittons help and support we wouldnt be where we are today.

I do hope when we do get back home to Runcorn that our ground can have some sort of thankyou or plaque etc… in honour of Witton Albion Football Club, and surely the first game to open the new ground has to be Runcorn v Witton.
