My View is that when we ( England ) go into a tournament we think we are as talented as say spain individually and proceed to float around expecting thinks to work out, if we played other countries in the traditional English way high tempo, aggressive and phsical we would get much better results my example is steve gerrard brilliant player but not in the way of messi or iniesta - but given license to get into spain and attack them directly we may have seen the best of him ? but as a link player on the left of midfield not so good ? spain are ok but when I watch la liga games they bore me stiff so for me a compromise, improve our technical skills but keep our cobatitive football style - liverpool won everything for years and shanklies approach loads of 5 aside but in a very competitive way.
