Vs Grantham

Lost 3-1 Grantham played pretty well, well organised fit and strong , however Witton did make it easy for them, we either gave the ball away cheaply or hit a long ball to Titch in the air who surprisingly did not win many against the 6 ft 3 inch number 4, Titch tried hard but nothing came off Rainford never broke sweat and so far looks poor, to add to the misery Gards limped off injured as did Koral after scoring a decent goal. We did miss Powell and we created very little, the confidence is so low that players look beaten which is a shame after two good away performances that we lost but deserved more from. Don’t know where we go from here to be honest ! But we need players and definitely some that add a goal threat because we are not a threat currently.

Every game of Sully’s reign so far has had an excuse. They’re too good, its a Wednesday, Seinfeld was on or whatever. No excuses today. They were half decent and we were no match. I like Sully. but any manager only gets so long. At some point he needs to start winning games. Bring on Sheffield, because if we dont win that, god knows what happens next. What an absolute shambles the club has become.

Thought we were awful all round today, players who we know can produce hiding behind excuses, take the pathetic step over from Titch inside their 6 yard area instead of putting the ball in the net, to many players who are not producing not being questioned in my opinion, thought Andrews, Gardner, Harrison, Titch were no existant today, big problems for Sully because we are going one way DOWN

I see Belper beat Curzon today.
Whilst we are not bottom we have lost 2 games more than any other team and have the worst goal difference by 4.
Where do we go from here?
Most clubs get a new manager bounce.
Ours hasn’t won a match yet.

What an utterly inept performance that was today, no fight no nouce no passion no nothing. Too many players started not in their right positions and there was an air of defeat from the outset about the whole team. I do appreciate that the team are not deliberately doing this but there is something fundamentally wrong here which I just can’t see away out of. Cliff Moyo was our best player and he was taken off, such is Titch’s lack of confidence that he deliberately didn’t score when it would have been easier to (from where I was stood). Jamie Rainford looks short of fitness and sharpness and the midfield was a shambolic nothingness.

In short it will be a ******* miracle if we stay up and I really can’t see it from here.

Whilst I’ve edited your over-abusive posting Mookie, I do agree with your passionate remarks. Shame the players don’t show enough passion to avoid the abusive comments.

This is the first game I’ve seen since the Curzon home defeat & there was the air of defeat in the stadium all game - and of course the inevitable happened.

If our once-idolised player(s) aren’t doing it, time to move on.

Time for the Manager to have the balls to do something about it. Or…

I’ve never been to Sheffield FC and, had the team shown a bit of effort/fight/commitment I would have made the trip over the Pennines. I’ll save my money.

After todays performance I can understand these comments, What I saw of the game I thought Grantham were a physical well drilled team and on that performance may have a good chance of a play off spot.
However we looked out of our depth and seemed to rely on a punt up the pitch in the hope somebody could get on the end of it. How many managers in one season do the fans want ? £10 to watch that is a not value for money, everyone realises.
Sully has probably another half a dozen games to turn it around we must stick by him and support him.
If anyone has a magic wand it is time to lend it to our football club.

Apart from Matlock at home, and perhaps today, Sully couldn’t really have been handed a tougher set of fixtures following his appointment. He has also been in a no win situation because he has had to give the current set of players a chance before bringing in others, otherwise he would have been slated for having a clear out straight away. It is now clear the current squad is simply not good enough so I feel he has no option but to bring players in.

Having said the above I felt at the time the club made a knee jerk/rushed appointment and I stand by my opinion on that. However as the club made that decision we have to get behind the manager and hope he gets it right, we are only going one way currently - derbies against V*cs and Kronenburg 64 potentially

Does Sully have the contacts though ? His signings so far have not been great and no better than we had eg Bakkor v Rainford and Davidson over Obrien, so does he have the contacts to get better players I don’t know. I guess a few of us were hoping for a proven manager at this level who could bring in 2or 3 decent players who could add something ! Having said that I like Sully he is a good fans manager honest open and seemingly hard working but he has to get the team winning, Grantham were good but not that good our tactics were poor Titch and Rainford hardly got a sniff and the midfield gave them nothing but hapless long balls, the tactical change to 3 at the back and 5 in midfield left us exposed to the killer goal, would have been better to go 4 3 3 then the long ball may have caused some trouble. Good luckntonSully I hope he gets it right but as said he doesn’t get infinite time unless we are planning for next season in the Evostik North !

Evostik South ?

That’s the one V*cs were in last season, they then got moved to the North - the league below us

Why the hell dont we shoot?
All the possession we had outside the box yet im struggling to remember a decent attempt on goal? I cant remember the Grantham keeper making a save in fact!
We looked good at Curzon on Monday because we had a few shots, players running into the area and actually shooting rather than looking to pass! It must be a confidence thing but im sure the fans wouldnt mind losing if we had 20 attempts at goal rather than 3 or 4!
If you dont shoot you dont score Simple!

Listening to most of you it seems the best idea is to sell up to the house builders, share out the money and pack it in. Clubs have bad times, we are having one but it was only two seasons ago when were challenging for promotion and everything was “Hunky Dorey”, no one was moaning much then. We have the wrong players it seems, but we seem to have a decent new manager and a very good set up so I am not too despondent just yet. Players like to play on good pitches with good facilities and we have both. I am sure good players will want to come here albeit for not very high wages. I still say “ONWARDS AND UPWARDS,” we may be in trouble but we can get out of it if we keep putting our hard earned into the club.
WHS.

FC United aside, we had the biggest attendance in the league yesterday. At least there is some positive news. UTA

I don’t think for one minute any of the Wittoners on here would Suggest selling/packing up ? I think we are all passionate but currently very disappointed and almost all will continue our support in whatever league we find ourselves in. Things can and will improve maybe not shortly but they will its a cycle I have seen many times over my 50 years watching them no need to panic. UTA

Even though there was a good attendance against Grantham would we have made much money? I wonder how the charging for ‘families’ compares to normal charges?

Plus how many would be willing to come again paying normal prices after that performance??

Gate receipts might be lower but you’ll make more on the tea hut and in the bar, plus programmes, raffles etc.

Plus the added bonus of hooking new fans…

If he wasn’t a scouser would you say he needs more time Mookie lad?

Hard to question the manager when performances have got better. Granted Saturday was a farce of a performance.

Reisso lad :cheer:

I didn’t mean Sully has an excuse. Just that there was a reason why each previous game ended in a loss (whether it was quality of opposition (Crewe, Skem, Curzon) or whatever.

There were no mitigating circumstances on Saturday.
