Match pointers
THE form book does not make pleasant reading for either club ahead of what is a key match for both managers.

Witton have one only once at home this season – a 2-0 win against nine-man Ilkeston – while the Mariners have tasted success only once in their past seven in all competitions. The tail end of that run has brought three successive defeats, including last weekend’s ignominious FA Cup exit at the hands of Worksop.

Alvin McDonald’s men don’t like making the short trip to Cheshire too much either, conceding 11 goals in the past four league visits.

They topped the table briefly during an unbeaten run through August but have only scored once in four games this month.

Witton have been held twice at Wincham Park, in 1-1 draws against Frickley and Ossett, and manager Nigel Deeley is keen for them to make their home patch more of a fortress in the coming weeks.

Well I for one am looking forward to the game because I think we are “getting there,” albeit quite slowly. A win tomorrow will set us on our way and who knows, we might challenge for the title or the playoffs if we can get a settled side together over the next few weeks. ONWARDS and UPWARDS.
