I am saddened to see the current situation at Wincham Park, both as a shareholder and a former director of the club. For many reasons I have only attended one game this season which was unfortunately a poor performance. I also made the decision to avoid making comments on the forum because of the lambasting I usually get from certain individuals who I believe are responsible for the demise of the club.
From the brink of extinction back in the nineties to two successive years of missing out on promotion to Conference North and now basically proping up the league, out of the cup, out of the trophy and a run I believe of nine consecutive defeats which is probably a club record.
Clearly it all started when a certain ex manager who had a very high opinion of himself bottled it when it mattered, who then went on to make demands on the Chairman which were not in the interests of the club and whose actions stirred up certain supporters enough to cause the Chairman to reconsider his position within the Club, I do not propose to say anymore on that subject as most people know my views.
I feel extremely sorry for Mark Harris, someone I do respect and who clearly has Witton at heart, he does not want to be Chairman but unfortunately is lumbered with the job. The previous Chairman is a very hard act to follow make no mistake about that. Mark by his own admission cannot spend the time or has the resources to run the club. The band of individuals who give their time are also to be admired, from the admin, to working on the ground and all the other jobs.
You of course would not expect me to write something on here without some sort of comments, why have you all got blinkers on with regard to the Manager, the fact must be that Nigel is a Wittoner or else you would have all been creating an almighty fuss, why haven’t the board acted and either asked for his resignation or if that was not forthcoming reluctantly sacked him. His record as a manager does not look impressive on a cv. If this is not done soon then relegation most definitely looms. I have no doubt the budget was less than last year, but still I am sure a reasonable amount to have maintained a satisfactory league position whilst the club recovered from the trauma of the close season.
So to close, the current position the club finds itself in is of course partly the fault of the ex manager, however certain individuals who have so much to say on here must also take the share of the blame, you were the ones who rocked the boat, you were the ones who convinced the previous Chairman that it was time to walk away without any contingency plans in place. Delete the thread, slag me off, I have broad shoulders but where would you rather be, challenging near the top or watching the current rubbish which is on offer at the moment and obviously the financial implications are a cause of concern for any shareholder.
