Should it not read…What type of manager can we afford ? What we want and what we can afford are miles apart !
That is a positive start
A good one!!
We need a manager who players want to play for.
A manager who will stick to his footballing beliefs and not swap and change on a regular basis looking for a quick fix (to a longer term problem).
We need a manager who will watch a player before signing them.
A manager who can coach, motivate, discipline and get respect from the players.
A good communicator.
Someone who can bring professional approaches to semi-professional football.
Someone who will give young, local players an opportunity to compete for places.
A manager who knows how to build a side capable of getting promoted from this league.
Someone with good contacts at this level of football and able to attract players to play for him.
A manager who has the passion to drive the club forward and loyalty to see the job through.
Someone not attracted by money but what they can achieve with this football club.
Someone thick skinned who can deal with fans getting on their back pretty quickly!
^^^^^^^sounds a bit like a combibation of Brian and Nigel…
Grifiths and Gleghorn that is…
We need someone like Steve Waywell who has played and managed at this level and if he could persuade our long serving player to become his asssistant then that would be ideal. This would go a long way to repair the damage done by the previous occupant of the managers post - who never had any rapport with the fans, could’nt face us and in the end sneaked out the back door.
I think that Steve Waywell is a very good suggestion Eli he has certainly done it at this level before and looking at the squad he has assembled at Chorley there would be enough experience and quality to challenge for this league. I could see a management team of Steve Waywell a experienced player/assistant, Pritch, Colin Little etc with someone like Nigel Deeley bring through local youngsters and someone such as Terry Murphy operating in a scouting capacity.
Not sure whether something like this would happen as I have seen on Leigh RMI’s message board that they want Waywell back as manager he maybe snapped up before our application deadline end’s.
I can see someone like Joe Gibirilu (Prescot Manager) getting the job as no doubt he will be cheap and I would put money on him applying for the job. Not sure someone like him would be right for us at this stage though. Anyway it is all guess work but I think it is crucial that we get this next appointment right to stop the rot which I am sure Mark and the board will do.
Several Managers seem to be now available. Steve W is one and I’d be happy with him as some other guys on here are saying at Witton with a good player coach on the field! Gary Flitcroft is also available having severed ties with Leigh and he would be good too. Meanwhile Dominic Morley has gone to Southport as player/coach. Liam Watson Sothports manager is the business as a football manager as he has stated he will have all his departures and incoming players sorted by 25/5/10!! This is what a good manager does he swoops before anyone else. I appreciate we can’t go for Liam or maybe even the others mentioned here but they are a good yardstick to measure against the applicants for our job if indeed we have had any applications. I’m sure we will have but I guess its down the calibre of the applicants. I don’t really want us going back to previous managers so lets try and get someone new to us!! If they happen to be ex players of ours who have done ok elsewhere then fine but not any of our ex managers. I guess Ken Barnes would be too old now mores the pity!!I’m sure Mark and Co are doing their best to get it sorted!!
Interesting reading on here with some obvious names coming up -what we do need to remember is that we want someone who wants the job ie has applied and is keen to work with the facilities and resources availble to them.
thats my opinion anyway!
Gary Flitcroft has just been appointed manager of Chorley (which was the worst kept secret in these parts for the last couple of months). Leigh have agreed to groundshare at Atherton LR next season and will be in no position to offer any sort of decent playing budget, so that will probably rule out Waywell from going back there.
Who has applied then Neil ?
Would it be too much to ask to have a manager who would be “stuck with” such as “Sir” Alex Fergurson at Manu or Mrgison at Fcum? Stability!!!
Now now Eli,
That is classified info.
Take it that Steve Waywell has not applied then Neil ?
I have heard that we are down to a short list of 4!!!
After analysing the chairmans comments in the NG my money is on Brodie and Pritch ?
Nah, I reckon Pritch and Brodie.
In all seriousness the pair would get my vote. In the current theme of coalition I reckon this pair could handle budget cuts, introduce greater stability and a build a healthier future for the club!!!
These two would command the respect of the players and reconnect with the fans. They have a vast amount of league and non-league experience and anything they don’t currently have they can quickly learn. Any potential negative in terms of managerial experience would be overshadowed by the loyalty, passion and effort that both would bring to the job.
We’ll have to wait and see whether or not there are better candidates, but these pair take some beating on many many levels.
I disagree, When a player takes on his first managers role its always best in my opinion to have an older head alongside to help/advise.
If Pritch and Brodie have put in would one accept the others appointment and work alongside as assistant?
I probably would accept either working with an older assistant but not together.
I have not heard any names mentioned yet as to who has actually put in for the job but was told that 6 candidates have been shortlisted not 4.
Could we be told when we are likely to learn who has been given the job? The Guardian said before they go to print this week, well thats tomorrow isn’t it?
I can’t see Pritch putting in for the managers job as he has major time commitments with his job and probs wouldn’t have the time to dedicate to it. I wouldn’t be suprised to see Brodie appointed but maybe with someone like Terry Murphy or Paul Ogden assisting him. I think we need to get someone appointed sooner rather than later as the new manager will need time to bring in new players and get ready for the new season.
