Where Do We Go From Here?

The team is sitting pretty. We have earned an excellent sum of money from our Carlsberg Trophy run.The squad is constantly evolving, much to my present surprise and still some very good supporters are quite critical.

The outrageous criticism of Peter Heler was way over the top.The manager rates him very highly and i think a footballer of Peters pedigree deserves a degree of some respect. The recent comments makes us all look bloody stupid.

We started the season for a triumphant mid-table finish and now half the team is not good enough.I have never agreed with over the top criticism but a reality check is needed.

Spot on

This cold snap may have come just at the right time for the team to re-group,get over some of the injuries and kick on. Early doors in the season I thought we might be right up there at the end of season but there are stronger teams than us and we might have to settle for mid table. But all the cups are out of the way now and still a long way to go. I think the management team are split about Pete Heler but I would persevere with him a bit longer,he came good in the second half of last season.

I like Pete Heler, for sure hes not in the best of form but Like Eli I would give him time, I personally do not accept that our aim was mid table ! our gates suggest we should be competing in the top 1/4, I also think most of the squad are competent some actually prety good but to the surprise of most fans we have never put out a decent right back all season but continue to sign every other position in the team barring keeper & left back ( who has been excellent )so maybe our early form set the expectation of a better position and the additional signings only foster that feeling and then we get a bit dissapointed- but hey I have been watching Witton for 45 years plus and had plenty of dissapointments but I still love it

If you set out to be mediocre you get mediocre

Peter Heller is a fine player, just not performing to his best at the moment, but that applies to a few of the team, but as Ian Botham said “Form comes and goes, class lasts forever”!!
WHS.

Can’t help thinking some posters on here have double standards, they frequently disparage the right back situation (never mention his name though, so thats allright may be that he doesn’t read this forum !!!) but any critisim of Peter Heller and a minor few are up in arms.In my opinion Peter would probably look a decent player in a very good team. In my opinion he is a luxury player at this level.I could be biased because i didn’t vote for him in last seasons P.O.S
Let’s face it apart from maybe 2 teams who have reportedly substantial financial backing plus tremendous support the rest of clubs depend on the guile of the management teams which are under funded.
We are now a little club, funded by a few (take a bow you know who you are)and run to the best of their ability and the very hard work by our chairman, board and unpaid workers. If such people didn’t exist WAFC and probably 75% of non league clubs would not exist.
No game next week ?. the club comes to a standstill? NO still people come down and work on the commercial side and the ground. Do you people want to help?. Retired persons are welcomed and will be delighted that there is no entrance fee !!. A couple of hours a week come on. Discuss

Where do we go from here? Mossley isn’t it?

I have no qualms with Peter Heler in general, i think he has taken Witton very much to heart. But as for comments that he is a ‘fine player’, i would like to see the evidence to back this up? 5 or 6 good games before Christmas last year, but at least a dozen performances that i would not grade much above 4/10. IF we want to progress then we really need to improve on players that offer so little.

We have some excellent players, but we are carrying 1 or 2, and the team just isn’t good enough to pull that off against some of the better sides.

If we are there or there abouts in March then there’s no reason why we can’t push into the play offs.

Fingers crossed.

I do feel Peter is a fine player who just seems to have lost the knack of knowing when to part with the ball. I think he is such a committed Wittoner he is simply trying too hard andf just needs to be a little bit calmer when in possesion, if he does that I am sure we will see a different player, more like the player he was last season. I see no reason not to state your opinion on a player on this forum, but it should be constructive, not just something negative like “He is rubbish”. If a player is not performing as well as you think he should tell us what you think he can do to improve don’t just slag him off. I said on here ages ago that I was very unhappy when Matt Woods gave up when he lost the ball in a pre season friendly, I am happy to say I have never seen him do it again. (Not down to me of course, Mr. Ogden would have put him right over that) So come on lads, and lasses, no slagging people off, just constructive criticism.
