10 points from the last five league games - upto 16th in the table.

Another good result, Matlock seems a long time ago. Up the albs.

Correction to the Witton team: Jawad Jebrin wore number 11, James Foley didn’t play.

Great result against what was 5th placed Whitby. So lets get behind Carl & the team on Tuesday, hoping for another win which could take us up to mid-table! Can’t help but notice how quiet it is on here tonight! Let’s hear you on Tuesday! U.T.A.

Reading the tweets from Whitby’s Twitter feed, it was a game with chances at both ends but an excellent defensive display together with Albion keeper Greg Hall in inspired form preserved the lead. Although, Callum Saunders & Jawad Jebrin could and perhaps should’ve made the margin of victory more comfortable.

Nevertheless, it’s an excellent result and keeps the good run going whilst also preserving our fantastic record at Whitby.

Great result and a decent performance where we possibly could have scored 3 or 4.
Swampy it’s always quiet when we win, some of the keyboard warriors only come out after a defeat. Let’s get behind the team and management on Tuesday and climb the table.

Another good win as we start to improve our squad and get players back from injury. I must admit when I saw Foley involved I was amazed. When he pulled up on Tuesday, it looked like a 3 or 4 week hamstrng pull so not surprised he was missing! Any news on our new signing Lawrie and how he looked? Hopefully he will be Smart’s replacement and get us a few goals from midfield. Look forward to Tuesday now with a bit more optimism. UTA

I must also admit to being surprised to see James Foley in the starting line-up initially, particularly as the news on Friday night was that he was unlikely to play. James Lawrie came on with about half an hour or so to play, not heard how he did but he did receive a yellow card in the last five minutes and from all accounts he likes a battle.

Incidentally, midfielder Joshua Paterson has played for Alsager Town for the past two Saturdays.

WHITBY TOWN 0-1 WITTON ALBION
BY LIAM RYDER

A first half goal from Callum Saunders meant that Whitby Town’s losing streak extended to three league matches with defeat against Witton Albion.

Lee Bullock and Nathan Haslam’s side dominated proceedings against the Cheshire outfit, but their opponents defended solidly throughout the 90 minutes.

After a 4-1 drubbing at Buxton in midweek, the Town joint-managers named three two changes to their starting XI but even a more attack-minded side couldnt’ find a way through.

Marcus Giles went close on a couple of occasions before Saunders, son of former Wales international Dean, gave Witton the lead against the run of play.

He cut inside before slotting the ball low beyond Shane Bland after 23 minutes.

Whitby reacted well and should have been level when Daniel Rowe fired over the crossbar following a corner minutes later.

Jassem Sukar then made Greg Hall parry his long-range strike but Witton escaped with Jacob Hazel unable to get a connection on the rebound. Giles would then strike over the bar with an overhead kick.

Giles then went close again, only to be denied by Hall once more, before Witton should have doubled their lead through Jawad Jebrin who hit a tame effort at Bland after doing all of the hard work in the build-up byt shrugging off a couple of Whitby defenders.

Early in the second half, Bradley Fewster and Hazel and Giles all had attempts for Whitby but they were frustrated on each occasion, largely down to the continued heroics of Hall.

Again frustrations would grow in the 83rd minute when Witton were awarded a penalty after a foul on Tom Owens. On this occasion, Bland would come to Whitby’s rescue as he denied Saunders well with his feet.

And while Whitby contiued battling until the final whistle, they rarely looked like finding an equaliser and lost their fourth match in a row in all competitions.

Witton’s fortunes seem to have taken a definite turn for the better since Callum Saunders’ signing. Having a forward that can find the back of the net on a regular basis, notwithstanding the penalty save yesterday, which in any event wasn’t crucial, seems to be making a difference, and it’s maybe slightly surprising that Nantwich let him go.
