I hope the first 3 phone calls are Jim Vince, Mike Worthington and Nige Deeley, to get all 3 of them back on board.
This club can ill do without the 3 of them!
Lets hope so
Just to clarify, has Mike just resigned as Chairman, or has he resigned from the board aswell?
I do hope he remains on the board and helps Mark out with his business knowledge.
The question will also arise, that if he has left the board, what will be his involvement with the social club?
I would start a thread “Save Mike Worthington”, but what’s the point…it will only be deleted.
Yes folks,
It’s hitting the fan.
I do hope there is some semblence of order soon.
What a week !!!
Very sad day in the history of the club, I hope everyone who has been slagging Mike off are now happy, he has resigned as Chairman and as a Board member. Happy now, Greenie, Robbo etc?
As a major shareholder, i am sure that Mike will keep an interest in Witton Albion in some way, shape, or form.
In the short-term, can JV, ND, and the players be retained for next season?
Let’s stop the slagging, and try and get this club back on its feet!
Rob, i will be happy if the Club can progress. Let’s see how this develops.
Personally Rob, yes I am happy.
I will be happier if Jim returns to lead the club. I’ve a really good feeling about this week.
I wasn’t slagging anyone off by the way, the situation Mike had put himself in was untenable.
Paul Worthington,
I notice you are currently logged on to the web-site. You, more than anybody, will know how your father feels right now. Please thank him for everything he has done for this club, and if possible, try and get him to change his mind about staying on the board.
Also, I don’t know how you are feeling at this time. I hope you stay with us, as we will need as much help as we can get to pull this club back from the brink.
Worthington: In my words

"AS I celebrate my tenth anniversary as a custodian of Witton Albion Football Club, I believe this is the right time for me to resign my position as director and chairman.
When I first arrived 10 years ago, the club was in the control of a court-appointed administrator and the future was extremely bleak.
Although I had no previous experience or involvement in the management of a football club, I decided to give what support I could over a one-year period with a view to recovery strategy.
advertisementDuring that year I came into contact with so many people who clearly considered the football club to be an important part of their lives and I was so overwhelmed with their commitment, desire, loyalty and passion that I decided to continue my involvement.
I set myself the following targets and objectives:
To return control of the club to its shareholders.
To restore the credibility and pride of Witton Albion the football community
To manage the club to its highest standards possible and to provide an environment which was safe, friendly and very hospitable.
To ensure the club could sustain the highest level possible in the football pyramid without impacting on its long term future.
I believe we have achieved all these objectives through considerable commitment on my behalf and the support, commitment and loyalty of the directors, shareholders and supporters of Witton Albion Football club.
I will be retaining my shareholding in the club and I will continue to provide advice and support as required to ensure continuity.
Finally, I leave the club with no regrets and the satisfaction that I did my best and I hope the friendships I have enjoyed over the last 10 years will not be lost."
Well Greenie have no doubt you are happy, but as Paul Worthington said earlier his father put £15,000 in the club this least season to support the manager and the players. Am sure you will be happy if JV comes back, but comes back on a much reduced budget, unless you are going to put your hand in your pocket!
Happy that the Chairman has gone, happy that all the work that man put in to first of all save WAFC, make them solvent and run on a sound business footing.
Its easy to say lets have Jim back, but does he want to come back on the new budget, probably half what it was last season, don’t forget Greenie all the overheads that go with running a football club, the lights, the rates, the insurances all this money has to be found.
So I look forward in future weeks to hearing that you have become a director of the club, with 20 hours a week to spare and deep pockets to pay bills when they become due, just the same a Mike Worthington has done for the last decade or so.
Its a great shame and I do wonder about the future of the Club.
I say again LET’S STOP THE SLAGGING.
I lot of people have been very hurt about the events over the last week. We know need to bury are weapons, and have some peace and stability, otherwise this club will split into many pieces.
sorry to hear of what is going on at witton but as a runcorn linnets fan where does that leave us with the chairman resigning?
We need your money as much as ever!!
Just as we will need every Witton fan to make sure they get down to WP on a match day and spend their money over the turnstiles, the golden goal, the raffle tickets, the predictions, etc etc etc… Money over the turnstiles will shape our future more than posts on here can ever hope to.
The future of Witton Albion is still very much in the hands of our supporters. The future is therefore what ever we choose to make of it.
Rob,
Whilst I can appreciate emotions are raw around the place at the moment, It’s a bit childish to resort to personal insults.
Mike has certainly done a lot for the club. That’s plain for all to see. But football is about the present, and at present very few people I have spoken to trust MW with the future of the club. No-one should be allowed to live on past achievements.
MW’s last achievement was to drive away the non-leagues best manager and unfortunately that’s what he will be remembered for.

The best post so far TT!
Mike Worthington deserves an enormous amount of credit for the work he has put into the football club and for making sure that the business has been operated within its means. Many Chairman sell the family silver, over commit to fanciful plans and abandon good practice and take high risks. Mike has ensured that WAFC has a solid base on which to operate and he has unquestionably invested time. effort and his own money for the good of the club.
The only objective has to be to stabilize the current situation. The departure of both Jim and Mike are both negatives, as both have performed so much in their roles. The absence of one or both is a disappointment and both parties have strongly expressed that this is not about ‘Jim’ OR ‘Mike’ and about having one or the other. Mike clearly has a number of reasons behind his decision.
I and others have voiced some concerns over commercial issues, the social club and other issues, shareholders and people who care and invest in the future of the club have this right. That said, the desirable outcome never included Mike’s departure. I hope that Paul will stay with the club and continue the good work as a legacy to his father.
This is not the time to pick the bones out of the “he said”, “he did”, etc, there has been a tremendous amount of growing goodwill in the club especially over the last two seasons and this needs protecting and moving forward. Managers and Chairman play a major part in the success however the club is what is most important and this is a time to unite and carry on the progress, not go backward.
Sincere thanks to Mike for making sure we have a future to focus on.
Re: Paul1 the Runcorn Linnets fan.
I would have assumed any ground share arrangements would have been made with board approval, and as such would still stand. However, your post seems to suggest that this arrangement was made with Mike direct?
I think you will have to approach our new Chairman, but I would imagine he’s going to be rather busy for the next few days.
