Wincham Park.

Our short term future seems to be in Wincham it seems so…

What are our favourite memories of our current home?
Would you miss the place if we were to move away?

Personally I would miss the place a little, I wasn’t even born when we moved to Wincham so that’s all I know. Most people seem to miss our old home so it’d be interesting to see if people would feel the same about another move…?

Excellent question Left Pegger.

My favourite memory of WP hands down was sat behind goal on the railing with me dad against Bolton Wanderers and then watching it on MOTD same night.

Another great game was aginst Kidderminster when we pulled a late goal back in the semi final.

I would miss WP as although i went to the central ground i was too young to really remmember.

As long as a ground switch is in the best interests of the clubs future then i am happy, wouldnt like to see a ground like V*** being built as it has no atmosphere about it, too big for the amount of support.

I agree, with Come on the Albs, a neat little ground holding 2,000 maximum would be great as long as it was built in such a way that it could be extended a little if we ever needed it to be, which, sadly I doubt, I can never see us pulling in thousands no matter what divison we were in. If the Conference Premier demand a bigger ground then we should just stay put and keep winning the Unibond!! Too many small clubs have grounds they have no chance of filling and their overheads are crippling them. (See Scum).
WHS.

I take some of your points WHS, but ‘2000 maximum’ is ludicrously small for a club of our potential. “i can never see us pulling in thousands”. What about the play-off final against Telford a mere two years ago? Attendance about 2,400 from memory.

I think a ground holding 3000-4000 strikes the right balance between realism and being able to host decent crowds for big matches. A ground like Wincham Park in fact!

My favourite WP memory so far has to be the FA Trophy Semi Final vs. Kidderminster.
We won 4-3 after extra time with big Jim McCluskie getting the winner in the last minute.
Attendance about 3,500 WHS!

We were playing Telford who brought 1500 or more, how many non league clubs bring a 1,000 to an away game? 2,000 is more than enough, if we get a big game in the FA Cup we can switch it to Chester or Stockport or even Old Trafford, after all the FA Cup is for making money, we ain’t gonna win it!!
WHS.

As i said earlier, V*** is too big but a capacity of 2000 i think would be too small WHS. The ground we have now is just right i think
If we do move please please please no running track going round the pitch!

Excellent comments left pegger on a very provocative issue.I for one would gladly stay put.So long as that huge envious car park remains at the Lostock end.So long as the excellent club remains in tact.So long as the beautiful playing surface remains weed free, build houses all around us at considerable expense but only to safeguard us as Witton Albion.I do not want to follow fools gold I want to stay put, puff my chest out, roll up my sleeves and wrestle anybody who wants to come and have a go.

Strangely enough,my greatest moment[not memory]was against Frickley a couple of years ago.One more goal to be crowned as winners and we finnish up with bugger all.You could not make it up.

FORZA WITTON AND ALL WHO SAIL IN HER

Interesting to hear people’s opinions on this issue.

I think a similar sized ground to what we have now would be ideal, I understand what you’re saying ‘WHS’, but we can’t rule out a return to past glories and to build a ground that small could haunt us. I agree with your comments ‘come on the albs’ with regards to Vcs and their ground. It is way to big for them and to be honest I’d rather have WP. Mind you, Vcs will be in the football league in a few years if you listen to the drivel those lot spew!

As for favourite memory, I’m not sure, In the few years I’ve been watching Witton there’s been far too many disappointments. The most haunting memory being the play off final a few years back. After equalising through Pritch, it seemed we could do this and were on the brink, only to see a wonder goal fly in past JK with 1,500 Telford fans in jubilation. Then Fozzie sealing the win (We’ll let him off!)

The first few games at Wincham Park were a dream, unbeaten in the conference!! Of course all the time we were paying out more than we were earning, and the benefit of selling the Central ground was whittled (P*ssed) away, we lived the dream!! Now we deserve to rise up, being run properly like, Hyde Utd (look where they are in the pyramid!!) just escaped a winding up order by going cap-in-hand to players, fans and collecting in buckets at Man City vs West Ham (Tracey please note!) Cummon the Albiooooon!!
