Winsford United v. Witton Albion (MCDFASC)

Admission Prices confirmed as follows:

Adults: £7, Concessions: £5, Under 16’s: £1.

Witton turn their attention to cup action on Tuesday night, when they make the short journey to North West Counties League Premier Division Winsford United in the semi finals of the Mid Cheshire District FA Senior Cup.

The Blues are the current holders so will not want to relinquish their grip on the trophy easily and will be looking to progress to the final once again.

Witton have managed to halt a losing run in recent weeks and have taken four points from their last two league games so, will be hoping to keep their improved form going.

Winsford have shown a big improvement after a disappointing start to their season and have won four of their last five games, including a 3-0 home success against FC Isle of Man at the weekend courtesy of a Nathan Cotterell hat-trick.

There is bound to be a bit of family rivalry in the game as Witton striker Joe Duckworth who has also played for Winsford, comes up against his brother Lee who is currently the Blues manager.

Former Albion utility player Matthew Coughlan is a regular fixture in the Winsford United squad, whilst Mike Koral now back at the U Lock It Stadium and Jesse Dowling have also featured for both clubs.

Should the game be drawn after normal time, the tie will be decided on penalties and the winners will face the winners of the other semi final between Barnton & Northwich Victoria later in the season.

Kick off at Barton Stadium is 7.45pm.

Tonight’s Attendance: 164.

Probably the lowest priority at the start of the season but where do you start with that result? Winsford wanted it more and that’s a fact! We were second best tonight another reality which some will find hard to swallow while others will conveniently excuse. Not on it tonight just not good enough.

Jon Macken’s post-match comments appeared to sum it up. “Very disappointing, never got started and Winsford fully deserved their win.”

I think Jon has to take responsibility for this result as well as starting clearly unfit players, players out of position and a very young inexperienced midfield set the tone for a really bad display!

5 3 2 didn’t work again. The only positive I took was Will Igoe who showed he deserves a start soon. I forgot how poor Winsford was apart from the social club it hasn’t changed in 50 years, only for the worse!

The pitch was awful and of course we wanted to play football on it but couldn’t and failed to adapt. I hoped we would see a change of attitude with Jon as mgr but sadly not.

I know it’s a small cup but we have nothing else to play for now except league points a very disappointing night.

Why have we got nothing to play for? 7 points off play-offs with a game in hand. The league is close we need to see come Christmas.

It wasn’t a good showing but some people can’t wait for things to go wrong so they can start stirring the pot.
