Winsford United v. Witton Albion(PSF)

Witton take their unbeaten run to Winsford United on Tuesday night in their fourth pre season friendly.

As well as being a friendly fixture, the two teams will compete for the inaugural Steve Wright Memorial Shield.

Witton go into the game having scored sixteen goals in their opening three friendlies so will be looking to continue in that vain.

Winsford United have already played four pre season games and have faired very well, keeping three clean sheets in the four outings.

They began their programme with a goalless draw at Welsh side Holywell Town, then took on newly-promoted NPL West Vauxhall Motors but came away with a 3-0 defeat before beating Coppull United 4-0 in their third game.

They were due to host Denton Town last midweek but that fixture was postponed, before they played out another goalless draw against Widnes at the weekend.

John Macken’s squad are showing promising signs ahead of the new season but they face another test as they look to improve on an already impressive start.

Kick off at Barton Stadium is 7.45pm.

Reports were limited so was the football lol. What is it about Winsford that drags us down so much atmosphere, pitch or their direct style of play.

Whatever it is we don’t play well there. UTA

That’s why I didn’t go hate the place.

In pre season you can learn more from a defeat than you can from games where you win 6-0 or 6-1 so not a night wasted by any means.

I would rather lose to Winsford (& hopefully give them a boost for there campaign) & we can really test ourselves in the next 2 games & Jon can see what he really needs for the league!

1-0 suggests to me that it was two sides giving their all, not wanting to give anything away - which is what pre-season matches should be all about.

We probably learned more from last night than we did from trouncing a p*ss poor Vics rabble (even though beating that lot always brings SO much pleasure ).

It sounds like the team is coming together nicely - I’d take a meaningless defeat last night any time if it means a win in our first league match of the season :+1:t2:

UTA :+1:t2: :soccer:
