Witton Albion Academy Team are in action on Wednesday afternoon when they welcome Matlock Town to The NetDec Stadium in an NPL Football Academy - Joma Division fixture. Both teams are level on four points going into the game but The Gladiators sit above Witton in the table on goal difference and have a game in hand. The fixture promises to be an entertaining encounter and there are some talented youngsters on show, if games so far this season are anything to go by. Witton have slipped a little in recent weeks and will be looking to climb up the league but it is all very tight at this stage of the campaign. Matlock will be hoping to take the points back to Derbyshire but it could be close. Kick off at The NetDec Stadium is 1pm.
A really good game, but it was marred by an injury to Josh, our keeper. After 30mins, he went up for a cross, but over stretched, and came down in a heap on the floor. He stayed down, with an obvious bad injury to his back. After some treatment, he soldiered on to complete the 1st half, but did not take any more goal kicks. When Matlock scored he overstretched in an attempt to save it, but he didn’t get up again. It was reported that he had lost all feeling from the waist down, and an ambulance was called. He lay on the ground for atleast another 30mins waiting for the ambulance, and when I left, the officials were discussing whether or not to abandon the game. I hope he recovers.!!!
MATCH ABANDONED - after 68 minutes - Due to serious injury. Confirmed on the NPL Football Academy Twitter feed. I’m sure we all hope that Josh makes a complete recovery.
