Witton’s Academy team complete their ESPFA Northern Division programme on Thursday afternoon when they welcome Divisional winners Runcorn Linnets.
The two sides have met twice already this season at the APEC Taxis Stadium in the reverse league fixture, as well as in the Group stages of the National Cup at Sandbach Community Football Centre.
Unfortunately, from a Witton perspective both games went in the favour of a very strong and prolific Linnets team who have deservedly finished top of the table with an unblemished record to date.
The National Cup meeting between the two sides was a close affair with Runcorn prevailing in a 2-0 victory, but the league meeting at Runcorn was a far more one-sided game with Linnets proving far too strong for the Witton youngsters and winning comfortably.
Albion’s fortunes and form have improved over recent weeks and results have shown that improvement with them currently on an unbeaten run of four games but that run will face a severe test today.
Although the league season is completed today, Witton still have a number of National Cup Northern Group fixtures to complete and they are currently in a good position in order to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
The game is being played at the U Lock It Stadium with a 12pm kick off.
