Newsletter #2
Hi to all Junior Members (and parents, grandparents, and anybody else who’s interested).
What a great time to be following Witton!!! Another big victory last Saturday, 3-1 away at Gainsborough. It’s far too early to get carried away yet, but second place in the league at this stage of the season shows some determination, passion and intent. Apart from the very first game when we lost 0-1 to Whitby (the day we were awful), Witton are playing some great football, and getting the results we need to push for promotion.
Our next game is home to Atherton Collieries on Saturday 24th. Please get down to the game if you can, and support the team to even better things. We all know the greater the support and noise you make, the better the team will perform.
There are three fixture changes for this month, so in order – Hyde United away for Tuesday 20th is postponed due to Covid problems at Hyde and will now be played on 1st December. The re-arranged game at home to Crewe Alexandra in the Senior Cup, has been delayed from Wednesday 21st to the following Wednesday 28th (don’t forget your Junior Cards do not apply to this cup game), and finally, the away game at Lancaster on Tuesday 27th is postponed again due to covid19 – it’s a long way to go midweek anyway. This postponed game will be re-arranged for a later date.
On Saturday 31st, we have drawn Scarborough away in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy. Not the easiest game, but the way Witton are playing, we can beat anybody home or away.
There are three things I want to keep reminding you about –
-
Apart from getting down to Wincham Park yourselves, please get your mates from school and guys you hang out with, to enrol and become Junior Members as well. It’s easy to do – all they need to do is ask their parents/guardians to contact me at juniors@wittonalbion.com, and we’ll do the rest.
-
Don’t forget you are entitled up to 20% discount at the Witton shop, provided you show your card at the time of purchase.
-
Please support the Junior Snack Bar which opened last week. We can supply cold drinks, chocolate bars, sweets, and many other items. You can also discuss any Junior Member issues with me at the snack bar. All hot food and drink will still be served at Queenies Bar at the other end of the stadium.
We are planning to make a big push in getting more Juniors involved by approaching schools, Junior Football Clubs etc. and by you telling your friends. With that in mind, Neil Wilson has come on board to assist with this. Neil will be known to most slightly older Witton supporters than yourselves, as a passionate, hard working guy, with Witton running through his veins.
So, with you, Neil and myself promoting the Juniors, I can‘t see how we can fail, but please do your part by advertising our great club to all the young people you know. We are nearly 500 strong now, so we hope to get over that line very soon, and then push on even more.
There are many adults working very hard all year round (without being paid) to give us all the pleasure we get on a Saturday afternoon. During the season I’ll try and explain what they do, and the essential work they perform. If it wasn’t for them, we would not have a club to support, as teams like Witton Albion can’t afford to pay outside companies to do all the work. It may just make you think that perhaps you would like to help as an adult, or even as a junior. Perhaps you can persuade your relatives to get involved? There can never be too many volunteers. There are a variety of skills needed to run a football club, and nearly everybody is good at SOMETHING.
I’m not going to announce all the birthdays, as you get them individually, and they get mentioned in other areas, so I’ll save a few trees. If it’s important to you, maybe I’ll change my mind, but if nothing is said, I’ll leave them out.
OK, keep safe, keep focused, and see you soon at Wincham, Park.
Alan
