Witton Albion Juniors News.

Newsletter #5

Hi to all Junior Members, parents and so on.

Well, this is the last contact for 2020. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be glad when it’s finished, it’s probably been the worst year since World War 2. Never mind, there’s light at the end of the tunnel MAYBE???

Now about Witton Albion – as above, there’s some bad news, but let’s finish on a high, and I’ll give you the good news last.

The bad news is we have been knocked out of the FA Trophy by Nantwich by 5-2. Newspapers would describe it as “a bad day at the office”. Let’s be fair, the better team won on the night. We created other chances as well as the two goals, but didn’t take them. Nantwich were very clinical, and in the second half, you felt every time they got over the half way line, they were going to score. There was again a good turn out from you Junior Members, and even though you tried your best behind the goal, this time it wasn’t quite enough. Good luck to Nantwich in the next round against Hereford – they must have a chance, they have 5 ex-Witton players in their squad!!!

The good news is that the league is going to start up again, and our first game is against Warrington on Boxing Day at home. I’m certain our Manager and his team will expect us to play better than we did against Nantwich. Don’t forget we are in the hunt for promotion, as are Warrington also up near the top of the league, this is an extra important game, and 3 points from the game will be enormous.

As I mention above, the league will continue for now, but of course the Government could overrule that decision if they consider the risks are higher than the benefits, but for now, let’s be positive, and hope for the season to be ended, with Witton at least in the top 5 teams.

I’m going to postpone until January the next instalment of who does what, when, and why, as to be honest, it’s for selfish reasons, as I’m so busy at the moment. This will be about the management team and players, and how it all fits together. Obviously, they are the real reason we all go to Wincham Park on a cold, rainy day, to see the team hopefully batter the opposition. We have a massive smile on our faces when this happens, and get that annoyed when it doesn’t, we could go home and crush a grape!!

Now back to you guys, so many of you now have become regular fans, and slowly but surely, I’m getting to recognise you at matches. However I can’t remember your names, there are just so many of you, so I’m afraid you’ll have to settle for a nod of the head, or an “aye up mate”. As far as I’m concerned, this is a great problem to have, as I never for one minute expected so many of you to become members and attend the matches as often as you do. Had it not been for Covid, we would have many more new members, but I’m sure you’ll agree that it would have been a waste of time and effort to push hard, when we haven’t known if we were going to play or not. We’re still not sure if the season will finish, so let’s wait and see, and act if and when we need to.

So in closing, I hope you all have an amazing Christmas, and either you get what you want, or want what you get – whichever. The main thing is to stay safe, think of others safety (particularly the older people), and enjoy yourself as much as possible – I think we all deserve a bit of fun and/or relaxation.

Thanks from the whole club for your fantastic support, you are so appreciated.

All being well, I’ll see you in large numbers on Boxing Day against Warrington.

Best wishes

Alan
