Witton Albion manager Scott Dundas became the latest managerial casualty of the NPL campaign when he left his post following tonight’s 4-2 home defeat to Bamber Bridge.
Dundas was appointed in the summer after having guided the now-defunct Norton United to league, league cup and FA cup success in recent seasons. However five defeats in his opening ten games has seen time called on the former Stafford Rangers player’s tenure. Dundas’ assistant Wayne Brotherton has also left Wincham Park.
Head of recruitment Paul Ogden, a former manager at Northwich Vics, Leek Town and Witton will take temporary charge for Saturday’s visit of Ossett Albion in the FA Trophy.
A club statement said: “we would like to thank Scott and Wayne for their efforts on the club’s behalf. Whilst it is acknowledged that it takes time for a new team to settle, the board believe that performances, if not results, should have been much better with a top four playing budget. Attendances have fallen by half since the opening day of the season and it was felt that a change at this point was required.”
His comments on his departure did nothing to persuade me he was an intelligent man. To say players would just leave was naïve and he seems not to grasp the simple rule of being a football manager, you have to win a fair number of games and most of your home games if you want to keep your job!!
WHS.
Before any managerial change is announced shouldn’t the club be giving some sort of indication to the people that back it as to what its aims and ambitions are for the long term rather than going round in nonsensical circles? We could take a leaf out of 1874 Northwich’s book in this regard.
If results keep coming like the last two I definitely wouldn’t be in any hurry to appoint. I believe we have a squad capable of achieving the play offs and unless Mr Pritchard is happy to return I am fully behind Oggy and his team to take us back to where we belong.
I understand what you are saying, but we must consider what Paul Ogden’s requirements are. He maybe quite happy helping us out in the short term, but may not want the pressures that a full time appointment would/could bring.
Paul Ogden has already stated that he is happy to take charge of the team for as long as needed according to the guardian. I am not saying he is the man for the job I am saying that where we are winning the pressure is off to make an appointment. I am really happy that we are able to call on a man with so much experience.
Great result on Saturday, well done to all concerned,
following the the Ossett Albion result, absolutely superb.
But let,s not get carried away. Both Ossett sides are poor sides. We looked tremendous against Prescot Cables from what i recall.
We need to have a reality check, which will come against some better sides. For the time being let,s give credit to all concerned,
management, players and the chairman, but please let,s not go overboard just yet.
Just delighted we are seeing some daylight. Also pleased to see Titch getting his confidence back and confirming he is the best
striker we have got by a mile, after having his confidence shot by being played out of position and then consistently being subbed.
