Man Of The Match - Drew Haspell.
n/b - Greg Marshall.

Drew Haspell’s last contribution as a free man was his most telling to date. Due to get married next weekend, and knowing his honeymoon will cost the side his experience for the following 2 games, Haspell ensured that he gave Witton Albion Supporters FC full value for money on Sunday afternoon. With the side once again having an excellent defensive platform to build on in the shape of the now legendary Marshall-Robinson partnership, there could only ever be one outcome as Witton stretched their unbeaten run to a record 3 games - including 74 minutes without conceding a goal.

Despite early appeals for a blatant penalty being waved away by the pint-sized referee, Witton were not to be denied the opening goal. After excellent approach play by the boys in red and white, Marshall released Haspell who grabbed his first ever goal for the club with an excellent low finish past the hapless Jumpers keeper. This prompted Witton to play some of the best football they have ever produced, as Green and Shaun Carter dazzled in the centre of the park - although they didn’t dazzle quite as much as Shaun’s ear-rings did. With Marshall and Robinson as miserly as ever in the Witton Defense, it gave the attacking players license to run riot - and before long it was 2 nil. With the play being sprayed around the pitch in a manner not witnessed since the Dutch team of '74, it was again Marshall who played the killer ball into Haspell, who again sent a low finish into the net for his - and Witton’s - second goal of the afternoon.

At this point Witton began to go for the sensational rather than the simplistic, and some of their fluid passing game was replaced by long-range shooting. Unfortunately the shooting from distance didn’t quite match the thunder-cracker that Robinson had driven home a few weeks previously, and as Witton failed to add to their tally Jumpers bagan to get into the game a little. Infact they did get the ball into the net at one point, only for the ‘goal’ to be chalked off as the striker had advanced into the area before scoring. So at half-time, the score remained 2 nil to Witton.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the earlier stages of the first, as Witton again dominated. Several chances were missed, before Blundell finally made it 3 nil and put the game out of Jumpers’ reach. At this point it really could of become a massacre, as Jumpers midfield all but gave up. Green will certainly feel he should of scored at least one goal in a frantic second half, as Blundell and Shaun Carter also wasted excellent opportunities. However, there was another goal to come as Haspell headed a long through ball-down and advanced on to it, sending a rasping left-footed half volley into the back of the net for 4 nil - and to become the 2nd Witton player in 7 days to grab a hat-trick. So 4 nil it stayed, with yet another excellent performance from the Albion - you can really sense the confidence flowing through these boys now. The win was made even sweeter by the fact that their opponents were a team of V*cs fans, with Green ensuring he kissed his Witton badge each time his team drove the ball home. Excellent stuff.

………BREAKING NEWS – GREEN TO LEAD SUPPORTERS………

It has been confirmed by club officials that Witton Supporters club Captain Tom Green will be in temporary charge of the team for next weeks match.
This news follows reports that Witton Supporters Manager Mark Robinson was seen wandering the streets of Cheshire drunk in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Reports in one of today’s newspapers suggest that Robonson was seen soaking wet, wearing a bin bag, and ranting “I’m gonna get bummed” and “I’m on my own” in the Oakmere area at about 1am following what onlookers described as a “cider fuelled binge” at a concert. The article goes on to suggest that Robinson is to check into Rehab in Newport to curb his excessive drinking and “rock and roll” lifestyle.
Green refused to comment on the article, and would only say that Robinson has a “few demons to contend with”. He went on to say that there “would be no revolution” and that he was purely looking to continue the work that Robinson has started.
Green stated: “Everyone at the club knows that this is a difficult week, we have key players missing, a Manager who needs a change of scenery for a while, and we need to plug the gaps. Luckily, I have a plan” What his plan is, only Green knows, but without the steady hand of Robinson, Witton could be in for a rough ride on Sunday.

After dubious reports in today’s press, the Club have moved quickly to release the following OFFICAL statement;

Witton Albion Supporters FC can confirm that Player-Manager Mark Robinson is likely to be absent from this coming Sunday’s game. Despite reports to the contrary, this is not the result of any particular vice and is purely an excuse for Mr Robinson to ‘re-charge the batteries’. This decision has been taken off Mark’s own back, and is one in which he feels justified in making knowing that both results and performances have improved rapidly over recent weeks. Mark intends to be at Sunday’s game in an some capacity if at all possible, and wishes to make it known that he will still play an active part in team selection. Mark has every faith in Tom Green’s ability to claim yet another 2 points for the Albion, and hopes that the playing squad will give Tom their full support.
