Witton Albion Supporters FC v KFC

Sunday 22nd July @ 2.30pm

Maybe we play in the yellow kit on sunday ???

Fine by me. However, Thomas is in charge on Sunday…

Bring both.

Witton Albion Supporters 0 v 0 KFC

The Wittoners were again lucky not to win in a game against probably the least technically gifted team in the competition. Never since the days of Joe Kinnear have a team relied so much on brute force and ignorance as KFC did, and it would have been a victory for football had Witton emerged victorious.
Stand in Manager Tom Green chose not to ring the changes, and the stability of the side has become key to some magnificent personal performances. Had Shaun Carter and Green been at their outrageous best today, KFC would have been on the end of a good hiding. Instead it was the turn of midfield enforcer Scott Carter to wow the near capacity crowd with a performance which perfectly combined devastatingly accurate passing with an equally huge defensive contribution.
There were other positives to take from the game, especially the performances of Greg Marshall and Veteran workhorse Andy Chadwick.
Witton did the ugly work well, and if the flair and trickery returns next week, there could be a goal feast in the offing.

Player Ratings:

Dave Johnson – 7 – Solid as ever between the sticks, made a couple of good saves and was vocal throughout.

Greg Marshall (C) – 8 – Made up for an early moment of madness by showing some good touches and looked more and more assured as the game went on. Was a key factor in another clean sheet. An ankle injury cut short a very impressive performance and he was missed when he went off.

Mark Robinson – 7 – Not the best performance defensively when compared to his own high standards, but played some fantastic searching passes, and was constantly competitive in a very physically demanding match. Was lucky to stay on the pitch after an ill advised rant at the referee.

Scott Carter – 9* - Stood out throughout with a commanding performance, dominated a good KFC midfield and was hugely effective with his choice of passing. Efficient is the best way to describe a performance reminiscent of a Makelele or Mascherano. Has again raised the bar and made himself difficult to leave out.

Shaun Carter – 7 – Wasn’t really his day today, but while his usual creative genius was lacking, he more than made up for it with his limitless energy, and his ability to grit his teeth and get stuck in. Was very disciplined despite the best efforts of the opposition to kick him off the park.

Tom Green – 7 – Like Shaun Carter he wasn’t at his creative best, and between them this may go some way towards explaining the lack of chances created. However, he bust a lung and covered every inch of the pitch despite still struggling with an injury. Played without his usual swagger and never looked like adding to his 12 goals.

Mike Blundell SUB – 7 – Ran, ran ran and ran some more. Was a constant thorn in the side of every opposition player and that shows his qualities. Always there with a tackle, always wanting the ball. Created a good chance for Chadwick and almost scored at the death. Had a look of Sissoko about him.

Dan Stuart SUB – 7 – Played well and made some important interceptions. Got through his first game well and will be an asset once he gets used to the pace and physical nature of the league. Wasn’t helped by having 3 different defensive partners in 7 minutes.

Andy Chadwick SUB – 8 – Showed the importance of having a wise old head to bring on in difficult games, played with great intelligence and has got the Sheringham role nailed. However, like Sheringham, if he was quicker than your average glacier he could have profited even more from some great link up play with Blundell.

Marshall is finally on board!

I hope it’s a big boat…

Cheeky Bar Steward. Your obviously hurt about your sub-standard performance on Sunday
