With local celebrity, Cheshire FM star Si Westland, making a much-anticipated debut for Witton then this crunch encounter against table-topping KFC was always going to be a tense fixture.

In reality though, Witton started very raggedly. Whether it was nerves due to the importance of the game, or if it was the rival AFC team watching on from the sidelines that were slightly off-putting, Witton certainly didn’t look their usual selves. Fortunately though, an early goal was to calm the Witton players, and provide the platform from which to build from. A well worked Witton move found DAN STUART unmarked, and his powerful drive rebounded off both posts before going in off the goalkeeper’s backside.

With the goal came a renewed confidence within the Witton ranks, not only were Stuart and Robinson demonstrating a ‘they shall not pass’ attitude in defense, but Green, Prew and Marshall were also linking up well when going forward. One such slick passing move put Marshall in but unfortunately he could not provide the finish that the move so richly deserved - however, his time would come… The only real threat from KFC was when their forward went past 2 Witton defenders with ease, only to be denied by a last-ditch block from Robinson, who had sprinted the width of the pitch to get his expertly-timed tackle in. Amazing.

At this point it is only fair to acknowledge the contribution of Scott Carter. Scott spent the game doing the ugly things that every team requires someone to do. The pressure on Scott yesterday was immense, as the latest member of the WASFC WAGs club came down to watch her beloved Scott put in a dogged performance. I’m sure she couldn’t wait to get him home… Anyway, moving on…!!

So at half time, Witton lead the league leaders by a goal to nil - and were well worth their advantage.

The second half began as the first had ended, with Witton well on top. The only change being the introduction of hare-like attacker Si Westland. When i say hare-like, i can assure you this is purely a reference to his alter ego ‘The Wincham Rabbit’, and has absolutely nothing to do with his turn of pace. The term ‘the first yard is in his head’ was designed to be used when describing young Simon. However, like every other player on show yesterday, his contribution was vital.

With Westland now acting as the fulcrum to Witton’s attacking play, the game was in danger of completely slipping out of KFC’s reach. His link-up play was a joy to behold, and his football intelligence was in evidence throughout. However, it was when Simon departed 4 minutes into the second half that Witton killed the game off. An excellent through-ball by Tom Green was picked up in acres of space by GREGORY JOHN ANTHONY MARSHALL, who slotted home in the manner of such legendary finishers as Van Basten/Greeves/Papin/Rush et al to make it 2 - nil and put the result beyond doubt. This capped quite a prolific weekend for the well-rested (on Saturday night at the Westlands) Marshall.

As Witton played out the remaining 9 minutes, KFC never looked like beating Blundell. He made at least one world-class save, and his distribution was excellent. It was also good to see Graham Prew beginning to stamp his authority on a game - he will be a valuable asset for Witton in the coming weeks.

So as the game drew to a close, Witton could potentially of added to the the impressive scoreline. Both Green and Prew may feel they could of done better, and had Robinson not been so focused on his defensive responsibilities then his creativity coming from deep may also of helped add another goal or two. Marshall even found the time to nut-meg a KFC defender with an audacious back-heel!! Ole!!

Yet a 2 - 0 win against a physical KFC side is a result to feel proud of. Witton need to ensure that they build on this result when they face Northwich next Sunday.

Best Moment - Blundell spilling the ball when attempting to roll it out (purely for the comedy value!!)
Worst Moment - Liverpool dropping 2 points at home vs Spurs (there were no bad moments in the 6’s game…)

Are these real games or are they some kind of fantasy football ?

Oh they are very real. I have the bruises to prove it!!!
By all means come down and play for us next week…

It’s 26 minutes of 6 Witton supporters running their 'taters off trying to win the game - except when Rabbit is on the pitch, he stands there and holds the ball up for 4 minutes before going off for an "isotonic" cigerette - lol!!

We’re all knackered after it, so its very real!!!

"lol"?? Right, for using that girly phrase on here i am officially stripping you of MOTM.

Just making sure that everyone knew i was joking!!!

Not having it taken the wrong way - we know what happened last time!!!

Less of the cheek young Daniel!

I thought Robbo might have put in his match report "Dan’s Screamer at 15 yards" but perhaps this might have been misintepreted towards members of the watching crowd rather than your fine shot!!!

Not necessarily fantasy football eli but a few dream performances!!!

Sorry not available - am playing for the Witton Albion Legends !

Van Basten/Greeves/Papin/Rush

You forgot Chadwick… (Andrew not luke)

If you look closer there is a common theme amongst the names i listed - mobility. That is why Chadwick was excluded…

Pete - Feel free to come down and pass judgement for yourself one Sunday. If you’re unable to actually participate, then at least offer some support ;D
