For the second week running Witton’s opponents finished the match with 5 men, however with the red card coming with the last kick of the game, there was no time for Witton to take any advantage.
Missing the tempo-setting Mike Blundell, Witton began the match at a much slower pace. Stu Jones started his first game upfront, and put in plenty of effort. However, it was the introduction of joint top-scorer Greg Marshall that saw Witton begin to stamp their authority on the game. Plenty of chances were created, but the final ball always seemed to be delayed by an all important split second.
However it was good to see Witton not trying to force the opening goal, and when the game reached half-time with the score at 0 - 0 there only ever seemed one likely winner.
The second half again began with Witton creating plenty of chances, and without being disrespectful to the lads on show, the team clearly missed the prolific Andy Chadwick. The best opportunity of the game fell to Carter, who unfortunately blasted his shot over the crossbar. Witton also managed to hit the Sita post.
It came as a shock to all though when midway through the second half Sita took the lead after a quick counter-attack. Normally this would result in Witton heads dropping, but the likes of Scott Carter, greg Marshall, and Graham Prew refused to let this happen.
It was the Marshall-Prew combination that eventually created the equaliser, as a Marshall pass was converted with vigour by the rat-like midfield playmaker.
Witton pressed for the winner that they richly deserved, and as Marshall attempted to hold the ball up his legs were whipped from underneath him. The resulting freekisck was lofted to Scott Carter. As he wound his leg back to strike, a Sita player batted the ball away with his hand - denying a certain strike on goal and potential winner. The ref took the only action that he could and brandished a red card. Unfortunately Witton were not given time to take the resulting freekick, and the game ended in a draw.
Witton have now fallen off the pace at the top of the table - lying in 3rd position on goal difference. It is vital that the team beats table-topping KFC in next Sunday’s game.

Best Moment - Showing great character to come back from a goal down.
