Again Witton were depleted by injuries and holidays, on Friday night caretaker boss Adam Clarke only had 5 players ready to play. Matt Clarke and Ed Robinson were drafted in as late cover and Tom Green announced he wasn’t going to Italy after all!. Worst news was to follow that keeper Graham Crouch couldn’t get time off work and with Drew playing 7’s at 2.30, Mike Blundell offered his services to stake a claim for the no.1 jersey.

Witton knew a win this week would set up a massive game next week against title rivals and league leaders Winsford. Taking the game to our opponents, Tom Green was loving his new role as the muscle at the back, breaking up any play Stallions had and feeding Clarke with great balls into feet which in turn got Shaun into the game.
Shaun came close on a couple of occasions before finally smashing one past the keeper after good approach play involving all 5 outfield players.
Next it was Clarke’s turn, hitting a shot with his un-favoured left foot that looked destined for the net, only for the keeper to get a hand on it and tip it onto the post! Then Blinkhorn broke from midfield and he too smashed the left hand post!
So 1 nil at half time, Clarke resisted making any changes and soon the ball was in the net again thanks to Shaun Carter’s second of the game. Clarke wanted the killer 3rd goal before making any subs and that arrived shortly after, Tom Green dispossessed the stallions attacker and pumped a 30yard pass over the defenders head straight into Clarke’s feet, and an easy finish followed.
This allowed Clarke to rest himself and Blinkhorn for next weeks huge game, and on came Matt Clarke & Ed Robinson for their 6’s debuts. The fitness of the 2 newcomers made sure Stallions never got near Blundell’s goal, so Albion keep their clean sheet record going for another week.

All in all an easy week at the office for the Witton lads and with next weeks huge game with Winsford its important to keep the momentum going and believe were good enough to beat them again! This result though will make it tough for the returning gaffer to decide who will play next week.
