Witton Albion U21's Development Squad vs Irlam FC U21's.

Witton’s U21’s Development Squad kick off their campaign on Sunday afternoon in the North West U21’s League Premier Division by welcoming Irlam FC U21’s to Moss Farm, in what promises to be a cracker! Come on down and get behind the lads! They would all appreciate your support!

The team are now under new management with new coach Peter Griffiths being appointed towards the end of their pre season campaign and have brought in a number of new players to the squad.

The team warmed up for the opening league fixture with an excellent 4-2 win at a very good Atherton Town in midweek and will be looking to take that form into the new season.

Josh Paterson has progressed through the ranks to the First Team squad and you never know, there could be another player amongst them that can achieve the same because after all, that’s what the Development Squad was meant for.

Kick off at Moss Farm is 4.30pm.

Witton’s U21’s Development Squad’s league campaign got off to a disappointing start at Moss Farm on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors went in front following a spell of sustained pressure leading to a corner ball in from Ethan Rhodes and it’s that man again Caius Silcott putting the ball in the net to give Irlam the lead.

The lead was doubled shortly afterwards as Caius Silcott added his second - driving past the Albion defender and hammering the ball home.

Albion were back in it before the interval as a ball over the top of the Irlam defence found Witton forward Marcus Robinson who slots it home.

So Witton went in 2-1 down at half time.

The game turned on one calamitous incident minutes into the second half as pressure from Irlam forced the Albion defender to play the ball back to the keeper which fell short. The attempted clearance strikes the onrushing striker George Lindo and goes straight back into the net to restore the visitors two-goal advantage and Albion never recovered from that.

Irlam added their fourth following some nice play from Louie Thorpe into Caius Sillcott who found Ethan Rhodes at the back post slots it into the bottom corner

Irlam completed the scoring minutes before the end as Ethan Rhodes’ corner finds Owen Houghton at the back post who heads it onto substitute Haron Alhamruni who slots it home from close-range.

Witton have an opportunity to show improvement and hopefully put things right on Thursday night when they travel to Winstanley Warriors with a 7.45pm kick off.
