Witton take a break from league matters on Saturday afternoon due to scheduled visitors Colne’s involvement in the Isuzu FA Challenge Trophy.
The blank date has enabled them to re arrange the Mid Cheshire District FA Senior Cup tie against 1874 Northwich, and fills a space that may not have been there.
The fixture will allow Albion manager Jon Macken to have a look at his squad, and to enable certain players to get much-needed minutes on the pitch, which they might not have had otherwise.
The result may not be important to some people in a lesser competition but nevertheless, it’s a trophy to be won and Witton will be approaching the game with that in mind.
The squad has been boosted in recent days with the return of forward Jesse Dowling to the club, following a spell at Widnes FC who ironically, will be Albion’s opponents in a week’s time but that’s for the future.
One or two injuries to key players have hampered preparations recently but it’s at times like this that the full squad is utilised to its maximum.
1874 have enjoyed a decent start to the season and will be tough opponents, and a number of members on both teams are known to each other so, that all adds to the occasion.
The tie will be completed on the day with penalties after normal time to decide who progresses to meet Winsford United in the Semi Finals.
Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.
