Witton Albion v. Atherton Collieries

Witton bring the curtain down on their season on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Atherton Collieries to the U Lock It Stadium in the final Northern Premier League West Division fixture of the campaign.

Both teams have managed to haul themselves away from danger and look likely to finish around mid-table.

Atherton have enjoyed a decent run of form in recent weeks and have drawn four of their last six games, so will go into the game in a positive frame of mind.

Witton’s last six games have seen three defeats but in that time they also took points from leaders Widnes and play off chasing Vauxhall Motors and Chasetown respectively.

Ben Harrison’s team have the chance to complete the league double over their opponents following the 3-0 win at Atherton back in August, a brace from Joe Duckworth and an Elliot Rokka goal securing the points.

One player who will be familiar to Albion fans is striker Scott Bakkor who has been around for quite a while now and has played for a number of clubs.

One not so familiar to many Wittoners is striker Tom Bentham who made one appearance as a substitute for the Albion back in 2010.

In the last seven meetings between the two teams, Witton have had the upper hand with Colls only victory coming in the Emirates FA Challenge Cup back in 2021.

The season as a whole has been up and down for the Albion with some excellent performances but also some that are best forgotten.

All things considered, staying in the league was imperative and they’ve managed to do that.

To finish the season with a victory would be a fitting end but Atherton will be tough opponents and will be hoping to finish their season in a positive way also.
