Match pointers
WITTON face perhaps their toughest test yet as they defend their perfect home record.

They will have to do it without Tom Spearritt, rumoured to be on the verge of a transfer to Warrington Town. He did not figure in the matchday squad for the Boxing Day success against Ashton.

But Nigel Deeley, on duty for the final time as manager in JimVince’s absence, can call on Mark Peers once again after he completed a three-match ban but he faces a tough task to take Kyle Wilson’s spot.

Rob Lloyd is another pushing for a recall after shaking off a dead leg, so Deeley faces a choice whether to leave out Neil Wood.

UniBond Premier Division top scorer Adam Warlow will be hoping to add to his 19-goal tally after bagging the second goal in the 2-1 win over Ashton. Albion hope to break the 500-mark for the first time this term after 495 watched them in midweek.

Opponents Buxton boast one of the best away records in the UniBond Premier Division, bringing back 22 points from their travels so far this term. They have lost only once - at North Ferriby United - in 11 games and won at third-placed Marine on Boxing Day.

John Reed’s men lie on the fringe of the play-off places in seventh spot but have three games in hand on Eastwood Town ahead of them.

They include ex-Witton winger James Turley among their number and the former Stalybridge Celtic man has been a hit since his switch to Derbyshire in September, netting seven goals. Reed this week rated him as the David Beckham of the UniBond League’.

"What a tremendous player he is, a great lad and a character in the dressing room. He has the full bag of tricks," he told the Buxton Advertiser.

It just gets better and better and better, Witton win, Utd and V*cs lose, and I have finally parted with last nights curry . . . can life get any better?

Scorers were Brownhill, Thornley and Lloyd

We were amazing today against a decent team. What a game, Buxton caught us on a day when were throwing 7 different kinds of smoke!!

Full credit to the lads, supporters and especially Nige Deeley, 3 games in charge and 3 wins in Jims’ absense and also coming over and clapping the fans at the end.

A pleasure to watch

COME ON WITERRRRRRNNNNNNNNN!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Witton battled hard today and deserved to get a result. They did extremely well in the first half not to concede against that very strong wind. Great goal today by Liam Brownhill and I thought Rod Thornley was outstanding. Well done Witton, let’s keep going and getting results, I am sure we will have our reward at the end of the season.

Despite the appalling weather conditions the Albion always looked to keep the ball on the deck in the first half and play their football. The first 2 goals were outstanding in that regard.

We made it a family outing with my wife and son coming along and they enjoyed it too. Perversely for them getting stuck in the mud on the training pitch seemed to mke the day!

Omwards and upwards!

Of all the matches I have seen over the years, that was probably the worst weather conditions I can recall, hardly (condusive?) (or is there an f in that) ideal for flowing football, but it shows we can play in that, I think may be we have a chance to get into the play offs as long as feet remain on the ground.

Extremely difficult conditions today, I didn’t realise how bad until I went to move the car from the training pitches later. Buxton played really well first half without creating any open chances and our defence stood strong. Tony Barras was immense, he never missed a tackle. Liam’s goal was a cracker and shortly after Rod took his chance coolly. I would have been glad to go in at half time one goal behind, given the wind and rain, so to go in two up was just fantastic. Buxton’s away record is second only to our own this season, so I don’t think we should underestimate the value of this win today. Our lads really battle for each other, the team spirit could hardly be better.
Looking forward to tomorrow, supporters v v**s supps. Should be good fun, and hopefully raise a good sum for charity. COME ON THE ALBION !

Mr Lomas your optimism astounds me, do you really think we can make the paly-offs, there is still a long way to go!

I would stock up on the king size packets of 20 - April is a long way away!

Brazil could not have played as well as we did in those conditions. Every player deserved a medal today. GoM - Rob Lloyd. MoM - Everyone of them but give it to Rod Thornley ( just to annoy Robbo’s old man ) ;D The supporters were tremendous - let’s hope they are as good to-morrow. ;D

I think everyone was a little sceptical about our home run ending today. Their Manager announced to the Buxton fans at 1.30 that they’d beat these today!!

The first half goals were excellent, bettered only by the third goal. And to be honest it could have been 5.

The whole squad worked hard today and I also thought the referee did extremely well.

GE

PS Tom S got off to a good start @ Warrington (0-0 @ home to leaders Retford)

Agree 100% GE, I thought the whole team was superb today, especially given the conditions. All 3 goals were stunning and how we crafted such football in those conditions was amazing. For me that was our best performance in a month against a side that (although not in evidence today) are clearly one of the best in the league - ahead of today they had won 5 of their last six and conceded very few goals in recent games.

Funniest moment of the afternoon was Rod donating his MOTM Award back to Robbo’s dad, he signed the label which said "Lazy Eh!!!, Merry Xmas, Rod Thornley". Rod was a cut above this afternoon and he deserved the award for his effort as well as a very well taken goal.

Has to be said that Liam’s goal was also worth the admission fee in itself - a 50 metre run from the half-way line and a cracking shot that bounced perfectly in front of the keeper. Of course we all knew he miss hit it!!! (Only joking Liam). The last time Liam travelled 50 metres in the wet he was awarded a swimming badge!!!

Lloydy’s goal was a peach, left foot curler from the edge of the box, not bad for a right footed midfielder, it was placed to perfection.

An awesome performance that put us 13 points clear at the top and 23 clear of Eastwood in the 5th place play-off spot!

Again, well done to Nige, he has sailed a steady ship in Jim’s absence and deserves his share of the reward for his fantastic work this season.
