Why are we risking player injuries by playing unnecessary friendlies mid-season. Having lost the services of Matt Cooper after getting injured in a friendly last Tuesday (and compounding the Marine result) surely it’s nonsense to play another one.
So we’re playing Chester - big deal - they’re hardly going to boost the gate by sufficient numbers to offset potential injuries.
If the Runcorn friendly was to get players match fit why play Mike Moseley when Tuck needs game-time and why not play Stuart Plant in goals last Tuesday.
Rant over - but it’s ridiculous.

GE I do agree , I can only guess the club needs revenue badly or pritch thinks the risk of injury is worth taking to get rid of our rust, I also agree about mose, his time should be sparing now he has been a legend but should really now be used in emergencies only would rather see a trialist given a run tbh, if the club needs the money then fair enough I will be down to watch and support. UTA
Unfortunately the lack of support for recent fundraising events has no doubt made it necessary to find other ways of bringing money in.
The only thing i can say is if enough people support the upcoming events (Sportsmans evening, golf day, beer festival, 6 a side football comp) then this isn’t a subject that will rear it’s head later in the season.
Tuck has been injured since the stocksbridge game and Saturday was the first time he had kicked a ball since then. Training is one thing but match fitness is another and with two enforced winter breaks so far this has disrupted preparations. Injuries are part and parcel and we also lost a player due to injury playing in the reserves. Any additional revenue would be welcome but is not the reason we have accepted this friendly and judging by Saturday 5/6 need the additional match practice.
It is a tough balancing act as these games are fitness boasts but not competitive and there are first team players who all need a run out and fringe players who also need the much needed fitness, hence why keepers normally play a half each in these games.
Tonights friendly has been called OFF, due to the weather now, and the weather to come between now and kick off
Probably not a bad thing. It’s not worth the pitch getting cut up and risking any injuries before a tough game on saturday. I was wondering though why we’ve had two midweek friendly’s lined up when the mcsc game against winsford is still outstanding? I know it’s hardly a massive fixture but it’s a chance of a bit of silverware and beating the green and white shite in doing so.
Winsford got a massive league backlog and are playing a lot of tuesdays
Winsford were approached first, but they already had a league fixture arranged.
Fair enough. Cheers lads
