Witton bring the curtain down on a successful season on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome City of Liverpool FC to the U Lock It Stadium in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.
A season full of hope but at the same time not knowing what to expect following last season’s relegation.
A new management team who had to start from scratch and a squad that has shown determination, character, spirit and a brand of football that has been pleasing on the eye.
To finish in the top six or seven is a credit to everyone involved and bodes well for their challenge next season, if they can keep the basis of the squad together and maybe add to it where necessary.
A bit more luck with injuries or good fortune in games, may well have seen Witton make those play offs and they came so close but it proved too much in the end.
Saturday’s opponents City of Liverpool FC currently sit in the lower reaches of the table, but have shown that they are quite capable of big results, having already beaten Workington this season and last week’s draw saw them end Mossley’s hopes of making the play offs.
The reverse fixture at Berry Street Garage Stadium earlier in the season saw the two sides play out a keenly contested encounter, with Harry McGee’s equaliser in the last fifteen minutes giving the Albion a share of the points after John McGrath had given the hosts the lead from the penalty spot.
Witton will be looking to end their campaign in a positive manner but City of Liverpool FC will not make things easy for them and Jon Macken’s team will have to work for the desired result.
Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

Man of the Match performance from Albion keeper Ollie Martin as Witton finish sixth in the table.
Shame we couldn’t finish with a win but should have!
A bit scrappy overall but some good performances notably Martin, Koral, Harrison and Barrow. Build on that next season with a few more goals, and we should be in good shape.
Overall an entertaining season given our situation the mgt and board have done very well and deserve praise. UTA
Poor game, felt a bit like a friendly - to be expected though.
The most exciting part of the afternoon was seeing the Oystercatcher eggs that have been laid at the Lostock End. Hopefully we can hear some positive updates over the coming weeks to see us through the off season!
From where we were at the end of last season to where we are now is like a breath of fresh air.
The style of football, the atmosphere during the game and the whole feeling around the club is second to none.
The club after the game this season has been busier than i can ever remember.
If you dont come in after the game then you’re missing out.
We had the Oystercatchers last year and they had chicks safely. Must be Wittoners.
