Full Time Score from the U Lock It Stadium:

Witton Albion 2 City of Liverpool FC 1.

Witton are in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Kidsgrove Athletic with a 7.45pm kick off.

Very fluent performance and much better than we had any right to expect after the shambolic pre season.

Of the new boys I was most impressed with Ewan McGeady who looked a quality attacking left back.

As a note of cautio,n I thought City of Liverpool were poor but let’s enjoy this one.

Well done lads.

Andrew Simpson posted on X that today’s win is the first time Witton had won on the opening day since 2016.

A win at Stamford in a game where we lost forward Cameron Dalton to a very bad injury.

Is that really eight years ago?

Fantastic 3 points after a shaky start, first half we played some lovely football and fully deserved our win with Koral starring at wing back in a 5 2 3 formation.

The new midfielder Daly looks a good player, Bembo Leta had a very solid game at centre back.

We had to dig in second half and the changes didn’t help us imo but overall a good team performance well done all. UTA

Funny how we see things differently, I thought we were doing OK when they scored! Anyway after that there is no doubt we ran the game and could have been in front before half time.

Understandably, we tired and got a bit leggy second half, but still played with the same will to win and effort and could have scored again. In any event a tremendous 3 points.

You have to say hats off to all the players and staff for putting that performance together. And you also have to say hats off to the ground staff - that pitch was superb!!

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the pitch fund collection at the game - the total raised was £195.00.

Thank you also to Tracey Collins for her efforts as always.
