Witton face a tough test on Saturday afternoon when they welcome third-placed Clitheroe to the U Lock it Stadium in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The Blues have made a good start to their league campaign and are unbeaten on their travels with two wins and two draws so far.

Their current position makes their recent decision to dispense with the services of manager Dave Dempsey all the more surprising, particularly to people outside of the club.

They haven’t waited long in appointing Danny Caldecott as the successor after he had left Trafford.

Witton have added to their squad in recent days with the acquisition of midfielder Harry Brazel from Bury FC, and the loan signing of central defender Tom Hoyle from League One Fleetwood Town.

Clitheroe had a successful season last time, reaching the play offs after finishing fourth in the table but were beaten by the eventual winners Workington AFC in the semi finals.

Witton go into the game looking to put last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Prescot Cables behind them.

A win could take them into the top five depending on results around them.

Last season’s meetings between the two sides saw Clitheroe take four points from Jon Macken’s team.

The game at the U Lock it Stadium ending all square with the goals coming in the last ten minutes, Connor Hughes equaliser in the last minute pinching a point for Albion.

The game at Shawbridge was a strange encounter with Connor Hughes giving Witton an early lead and then Clitheroe scored four times with two coming in the last fifteen minutes, a result that rather flattered the hosts.

Witton have won their last two home games against Hednesford Town and Widnes respectively, the latter courtesy of a very late goal from Connor Hughes so will be looking to make it three on tne run.

Kick off at the U Lock it Stadium is 3pm.

Witton slip to 13th in the table following their first home league defeat of the season.

A good first half where we looked like the team from last season, passing sharply and closing down well.

Both new players looked pretty good and we scored a nice goal however with a strong wind 1-0 never felt enough.

Second half Clitheroe picked up the pace and we defended ok but gave the ball away to help them, then the changes which didn’t really work.

Sherratt an ok player replaced Williams but rather than pick up the passing game, goes long too often usually without accuracy.

One example on the left hand side Kennerley overlapped him and he had a simple ball to give and continue the attack, but he turned inside to hit a 55mt ball out for a throw in to clitheroe, and then Roberts on who failed to impress again when pulling out of a 50/50 ball to avoid a tackle, never a move to impress fans that!

However clitheroe are a good side and they completed the win just, where a draw was fair but we showed signs of becoming a very good team again.

With Martin back, Hughes getting sharper and the new signings settling in we will win many games playing like that.

Onto league leaders Kidsgrove next week where we have to play like the first half today for 90 mins and take our chances. UTA

I feel we played some great football yesterday just like pre season.

Very impressed with the new signings especially Harry in midfield, we had at least 2 shots cleared of the line and a good shout for a pen on Duckworth.

Once again we need that bit of luck to win the game, I am sure with this side we should start to win games.
