Witton Albion v. Congleton Town

Witton return to league action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Congleton Town in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The Bears currently sit in sixteenth place in the table following their promotion from the Midland Football League at the end of last season.

The two clubs were regular opponents in their Cheshire League days but haven’t met in a league fixture for a number of years.

The last two meetings were in the Cheshire Senior Cup and the Emirates FA Challenge Cup respectively with the results being one victory apiece.

Elliot Rokka’s two goals saw Albion prevail in the FA Challenge Cup tie at Booth Street in the 2023/24 season, whilst goals from Max McCarthy and Thomas Hampton saw Congleton halt Witton’s Cheshire Senior Cup campaign in January of the same season.

Witton go into the game on the back of a very disappointing result and performance against Runcorn Linnets in midweek but also without a league win since August Bank Holiday Monday, ironically against Runcorn Linnets.

Fortunes have certainly changed since the start of the season but Witton’s management team know the size of the task in front of them and will be doing everything they can to address the problem and get the team climbing the table.

Witton have added to their squad in midweek with the signing of midfielder Isaac Graham from Newcastle Town, ironically Witton’s next opponents after this game.

A tough game is facing them but one result could change everything but results need to start now.

Plus another midfielder to fit in !

The new lad could come in or Owen Cushion.

Hope the new midfielder can score goals !

Cushion might be suspended? Also he has not shown much of anything so far!

Quite a few in front of him in my opinion.
