We were poor again yesterday not unlucky. I can cope with getting beat by a better team. What I can’t cope with is lack of organisation, passion and desire.
Over the season so far I have observed a number of things which worry me as far as at the team’s organisation is concerned. Yesterday the defending of corners changed as the game went on, there was no consistency, which leads me to think whether players are being allocated roles within set piece play or not i.e. We started with Donnelly left post, Ben Thornley right post and Gary Scott front post six yard blocker - stopping the ball being fizzed across the six yard box. This worked well. Leigh play a short corner Scott goes out to stop them working the short corner. Where was the second Witton player? This allowed Leigh to have a two on one situation. In the second half players weren’t on posts so much so that we ended the game with one player on the post. Where is the consistency in that? Note this isn’t the only game this season where this has been the case. It was at it’s most alarming against Cammel Laird.
Free kicks - I know we scored from one yesterday! But so far during the course of the season I haven’t seen any pattern in them at all. Is there one or is it just pot luck? During yesterday’s game for example I didn’t see a signal from the free kick taker in offensive situations to indicate his intentions.
Time and time again we have been caught in possession of the ball on the edge of our own area leading to a number of the oppositions goals this season. We are not Brazil we never will be let’s play to the players limitations and to our own strengths.
Too many times this season we have played across teams, which they are happy for us to do. In the last two league games we haven’t got to the byline once. If we need to be more direct to obtain results then let’s do so, it works for many other teams at this level so why not us. I am lead to believe that is how we played at Prescot and it worked to great effect.
We have some good players Greg Smith, Donnelly, Scott, Pritchard, Rod Thornley, Thompson and it goes without saying that players of this calibre would walk into most unibond premier legaue teams.
I know Mr Deeley has had a mammoth task this season with limited budget and total rebuilding of the team but I really think that now it is time for him to deliver, not just the players. After 19 competitive games and 7 friendlies I really do think we should be expecting better.
Don’t get too excited, Eli - there is more than a degree of irony in my user name!
Anyway, I’m not sure that money is the most important thing that we need at the moment. Drew and Robbo have just made some good points - you’ve got to wonder about our substitutions yesterday (and last week); and we’ve got quite a few decent players who should be doing better. It isn’t money that’s needed to improve things there, it’s a matter of making better use of the resources we’ve got.
There’s much to admire about our club - it’s good to see the number of junior teams turning out as Witton Albion, and I have nothing but praise for all the people that put their heart and soul into Witton. But what the paying public are mainly aware of is the results of the first team, and if they don’t like what they see, they won’t turn up. Nobody was expecting miracles this season - but surely we were hoping for something a bit better than what we’ve been getting the last few weeks?
Pritch said he wants the fans to get on their backs about results which should have been happening after recent games, not just on here. It is beyond me how STILL on saturday some fans were applauding the team. What were u applauding? Passion? Performance? Effort? Because there has been very little of that.
Maybe we should have played a couple of the juniors in the first team, because we had 3 or 4 players that wernt deserving of a first team place. Talk about lack of passion and heart! we are sadly mistaken if we think that teams like alty are going to send good players out on loan saturday prooved that.
I though for the first 25 mins we played some good football, after that the patern went we didnt seem to have a clue, and too many players seem to take the attitude of fk it leave it to some one else, well i`m sorry but fk them and give the shirt to somebody who gives a sh*t. Its a disgrace the attitude of some of the players.
Nice to see some of our telford friends in the bar before the game ( and during the game) thanks to some quick thinking by mr G fawkes ( should have burnt the lot down).
I think it is now time for the decent and commited players to stand up and be counted, make no mistake we are now in a battle.
Bit better, but must try harder.
Nah, the team is made of a bunch of weak players [Pritch and Thornley bros. excepted] who lack passion and commitment to the club.I do not think they are bothered whether they play bad or absolute c**p football.
Poor nigel is flogging a dead horse and we are up the creek.
Keep the faith or faith no more ?? !!!
Come on here by all means and speak your mind - that is what the forum is all about - but the people who are having a go were either not at the Info Meeting or if they were they kept their mouths shut. Where’s your bottle ?
As Muhammead Ali said " It’s lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges " so -
Lets support everybody at the club from the chairman down and trust them to do the right thing at the right time, last seasons lot let us down badly and everybody is responding in a positive manner to put things right.
Lord Sidney of Witton - I think you will find we are desperate for donations of any amount.
