When you are down it all goes against you. Is there a way up? I dont know. I hope Nige turns it round but I am wondering where the next point is coming from. Please dont get on his back though Wittoners, he can still be the man for the job.
Agree with you TATH.
a bit better still dont look like scoring or keeping a clean sheet though
could be worse http://www.northwichguardian.co.uk/vics/3791492.UPDATED__Cup_clash_abandoned_at_half_time/
Well our local police service has been kept on its toes if rumours are correct.
greg smith should hang his head shame but on his second half performance he would probably drop it. he did make one excellant save in the first though.
that explains why them scroats came in at the end. Rumour has it they were left irate when sum wittoner drove past hurling obscene comments at the little asbo tw*ts which they did not appreciate.
stop talkin sh*te mr 1992. Greg has been immense all season and if anybody can hold their head high its him. We would be rock bottom now if it werent 4 him. I spose u must be a part time supporter and missed all the saves hes pulled. Congratulations that is the most stupid post ever!!
danny it was actually a bit of a joke its called humour, making light of a bad situation. there was a second sentance in there as well. If mine was the stupidest post ever you response was a very close second( another attempt a humourous sentance).
Just to point out that Greg was vey ill over the last few days, and was a major doubt if he was fit to play. You may have noticed the yellow bucket next to his post, just in case of emergencies. I am sure, had he been 100%, we would have got a well deserved draw today.
Although I’m obviously delighted with the win and the way we controlled the second half, I really felt sorry for your goalkeeper as he seemed a decent lad and had a decent craic with our fans, not to mention making an awesome save from Marsh-Evans in the first half.
Still, it was a win that we really needed but I don’t think you’ll have much to worry about at the end of the season.
Match report from our end available here.
Thanks for the post Leyther-Matt - wonder if our match reporter will be as sympathetic.?
Just one of those days for your keeper, I reckon - was a great finish for the first one, absolute brainfart for the second while the third was a bad bounce in fairness.
Was joking with him at half-time to let in a few, so I suppose we owe him a pint on Boxing Day!
What a frustrating afternoon. For long periods we looked comfortable and were playing the best football for some weeks. We responded in the best possible fashion to going a goal down and I really thought it was going to be our day…but it wasn’t to be.
Greg has been immense all season and the main reason our defeats haven’t been cricket scores is down to his ability and agility. To hear he was a doubt before the game with sickness just piles on the agony even more.
The margins in football between winning and losing are small. Players only need to raise or lower their performances by percentages to affect the outcome.
I still think that this team isn’t far away from turning a corner and stringing some results together. Mid table mediocrity has never seemed quite so appealing as it does right now!
Oh and KTF.

WITTON ALBION 1 LEIGH GENESIS 3 att. 419
Team: Smith G., Scott, Pritchard, Smith N., Donnelly (Skelton 82); Thornley B., Willis, Owen (Linford 71); Wiggins-Thomas, Thompson (Thaker 73) & Thornley R. Subs not used Schwarz & Millington.
It was almost 13 years to the day that these two teams last met and with Albion putting on an afternoon dedicated to their Juniors set-up, that attracted over 100 children, this result was the worst possible outcome as they extended their abysmal run to 7 straight defeats!
Nigel Deeley again chopped and changed his team and with three players making home debuts it was one of these Val Owen who tried the first shot at goal but his 9th minute attempt ended well wide of the right post. In a pretty poor opening half there were only two noteworthy attempts on goal as both sides seemed to struggle on the saturated surface. The 25th minute saw Ben Thornley work himself into a good position to fire in a shot that Leigh’s vastly experienced keeper Steve Dickinson just managed to grab at the second attempt as younger sibling Rod Thornley bore down on him. Five minutes later it was home custodian Gregg Smith’s turn and he produced a superb save to fist over from Rob Marsh-Evans who’d got on the end of a good build up from the visitors. Tempers got slightly frayed and Rod Thornley was cautioned whilst Alex Mortimer merely spoken to.
Six minutes into the second period and rather predictably the opening goal came from a Witton error when loanee from Altrincham Val Owen lost possession with the ball quickly prodded forward for JORDAN STEPIEN to score with ease. Two minutes later though it was all-square following a foul by Alex Mortimer, that really should have brought him a second yellow card. However the resultant free-kick was lifted to the far post where ROD THORNLEY rose to head home.
On 58 minutes Smith looked to have successfully pulled off a flying save to collect a ball from the left, unfortunately for the keeper, who was actually playing although suffering from a stomach upset, as he fell to ground the ball dropped from his grasp and full marks to BRAD MAYLETT in quickly seizing the opportunity to fire into the roof of the net.
Owen again had a chance to score but like previous sent the shot wide of the right upright in the 63rd minute. The visitors eventually became totally in control and centre-back Marsh-Evans went close after galloping the full length of the field. With eight minutes remaining former Albion mid-fielder TOM FIELD tried a speculative shot from the edge of the area that Smith made an absolute hash of in allowing the ball to slip through his hands and roll gently over the line!
KTF? More like WTF!
Once again, we were playing against a team that were a poor excuse for a rabble - and we managed to make them look good. No excuses today, we weren’t unlucky, we were second best by a long way. Other teams losing isn’t much consolation, we’re still only 1 point off bottom.
Don’t know why people on here are saying we played good football, only need a bit of luck etc. etc. We were terrible, hardly created a chance, looked totally disorganised. I go to watch football to be entertained, and it’s just not happening. Having a different team every week can’t be helping either, there seems to be very little team spirit.
Do I feel negative? Yes! The club can’t take too much more of this, I dread to think what the gate will be next week. We can’t just carry on accepting sub-standard performances and hoping for the best, something’s got to change, we need some decisive action, and quick.
We need some money - and with a name like Lord Sidney u sound like just the man !

Good post RS65.
There’s still a lot of work to be done which should be led by Nigel.
We were poor again yesterday. It’s enough to make the Pope lose his faith!!!
First half was better than the previous few games, and we showed good character to equalise so quickly. However, for the last half an hour Leigh didn’t really have to break a sweat whilst totally outplaying us.
Rod was very fortunate not to see red, so talk of us being ‘unlucky’ is complete garbage as we should have been down to 10 for a large part of the game.
I was very confused as to why Thompson was taken off when we were chasing the game? Especially with Rod being on a yellow.
I know we aren’t paying out much money, but i’d love it if we unearthed a winger who could cross a ball.
I’m yet to see a good team play against us so far this season, especially at Wincham Park.
Anyway, roll on Tuesday…
