Witton Albion v. Nantwich Town

Boxing Day brings “derby” football to the U Lock It Stadium when Witton welcome Nantwich Town in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The Dabbers arrive at the U Lock It Stadium in twelfth place in the league, two points better off than Witton and with a game in hand.

Witton look to follow last Saturday’s excellent victory at Chasetown with another three points in what will be a difficult test.

The result in Staffordshire was helped by an excellent start with Joe Duckworth finding the net so early which gave Albion a boost.

The game is a repeat of the Boxing Day fixture of a year ago when Albion secured the points in a 2-0 win with goals from Nick Hepple and Joel Bailey.

The Dabbers weren’t helped by the dismissal of former Albion striker Callum Saunders right on half time.

Witton have found the Dabbers to be a bit of a “bogey” team of late, having recorded just two wins from the previous ten meetings.

They will be hoping that changes today as they look to win back to back league games for the first time this season.

The news in midweek that Salford City have agreed to extend midfielder Alfie Bairstow’s loan for another month, is a timely boost for everyone at the club, as he has made an excellent contribution during his stay.

There are expected to be a number of players on show with connections to both clubs with Albion manager Ben Harrison and midfielder James Lawrie having played for both.

The Dabbers have the aforementioned Callum Saunders along with Josh Langley, James Baillie and Harry Bower who have also donned the red and white stripes.

They will be looking to put one over their former employers but Witton will be doing their best to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

Love a Boxing Day game and it will be very interesting to see if we can now generate some consistency in the results but as ever Nantwich will be tough!

Team wise assume Dufton Kelly is not about and we still have a couple injured so maybe

Terry
Walls, BLeta, Ebhote, Damola Sotona
Brazel, Bairstow, J Edwards, C Edwards
Garbutt, Hoyle/Duckworth

Hard to choose between Duckworth and Hoyle, both offer something different and at the moment I’d pick Fleming over Sotona who’s still getting fit.

Good luck whoever plays see you there. UTA
