Witton Albion v. Northwich Victoria(PSF)

Witton begin their “Home” pre season programme on Tuesday night when they welcome tenants Northwich Victoria in a friendly.

Despite being labelled as a “friendly” the teams will Contest the “Vijay Anthwal Memorial Shield” as in previous years.

Witton currently hold the shield and will be hoping to retain it for another year.

This season’s fixture sees a very different Northwich squad following their move to the Midland Premier League, and changes in personnel on the field will need time to make their mark.

The new look Vics have kicked off their pre season with a 4-1 defeat at neighbours Lostock Gralam and then followed that with a 1-1 draw at Welsh side Conwy Borough at the weekend.

Witton kicked off their pre season programme with an excellent performance and result at Alsager Town, a chance for the players who have re signed for another year and also new signings looking to make an impression.

Should the game be drawn, penalty kicks will detemine whether Witton retain the shield or Northwich Victoria win it for the first time.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 7.45pm.

No disrespect to the tenants like, but it looks like zincs are doing some serious squad rebuilding with so far not great results. Great opportunity to get out shooting boots on and build up some confidence ahead of the new season. No reason to go easy on them we need to look after our own interests.

Great performance last night, we played lovely passing football especially first half.

Very impressed with both wingers, all players looked they are hungry to win games. Looking forward to this season.

Whilst it was against a newly forming Vics team, Witton played some lovely football and some of the new players were impreesive too.

Squad is coming together nicely and it should be an interesting season. UTA

Could have been double figures.

I think Joe will benefit from playing with Pope. Really good to see Connor jogging pre game. Hopefully he will be back soon.

Squad is taking shape nicely.

Sad to see Vics in such a state it might be a long old season for them unless things pick up quickly. Nice win for the Albs all the same and six goals will do very nicely thank you. We maybe worth a little flutter on promotion even at this early stage.

An excellent performance from Witton, a well deserved victory. Both wingers in the first half were excellent and other trialists who came on in the second half were impressive and would make good addition to the squad. It is looking good for the upcoming season, it can’t come quick enough. UTA
