Witton Albion v. Northwich Victoria(Vijay Anthwal Memorial Shield)

Witton return to the U Lock It Stadium on Saturday afternoon when they take on Northwich Victoria in their fourth pre season game.

Although the two clubs are competing for silverware in the Vijay Anthwal Memorial Shield, the game is also a friendly.

Witton will look to put on a better performance than they did at Runcorn Town on Tuesday night, but the management team used the exercise to cast an eye over a number of trialists and to give players game time.

Witton have held the upper hand in previous meetings apart from last season when they faced 1874 Northwich, in what was Ben Harrison’s first game in temporary charge.

A 6-1 defeat on that occasion at the beginning of what was to be a testing time for the interim boss.

Northwich Victoria have made some interesting signings in recent weeks, particularly former Nantwich Town, Stafford Rangers and Hanley Town forward Sean Cooke.

Their pre season so far has seen them draw with Prescot Cables and win comfortably against Shrewsbury Town Academy and Lostock Gralam respectively.

Witton face another tough game and will be looking to continue their impressive record against Northwich in this fixture, as we honour the memory of a well-respected servant to our club and the wider community.

Should the game be drawn at the end of normal time, penalties will decide the winners.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

Well a good test this one as they seem to have recruited well.

Hope we treat it a bit seriously and put our a decent team.

With no Isaac Graham, only Jim Lawrie at that level to replace from what I have seen pre season, so a very odd loss that one!

Team-wise like to see:

Terry
Baillie, Bembo-Leta, Langley, Ebhote, Jackson
Brazel, Lawrie
Harrop
Hoyle, Djabi.

Given Hooper and Duckworth have been on holiday, that looks about the best side unless we can get someone in to replace Graham? UTA

What’s happened to Issac Graham?

Released by us gone to Newcastle not sure why yet.

Seems strange; can only assume something has gone on behind the scenes.
We definitely need to recruit someone with a similar physical presence in midfield.

Yes that is strange releasing Graham? We are lightweight in midfield now, hope Ben can sort it out!

Disciplinary issue after Tuesday’s game!

We do definitely need to recruit in midfield maybe 3 and lose some strikers.

That’s fair enough no one is better than the club.

I think we look strong at the back, forward line looks ok but agree, we need to strengthen the midfield.

Penalties will now decide the winners.

Northwich Victoria win 5-4 on penalties.

Yes that poor result confirms a few things, we need at least 2 midfielders.

Our back ups are not good enough not even close, may look better when Hoyle and Duckworth are back.

Trialist left back looked ok, 3 centre backs will be fine, today other than that a lot of work to do. UTA
