Witton Albion v. Runcorn Linnets

Should be another good crowd on Monday, would’ve thought Runcorn will bring a strong following.

They’ll be keen to bounce back after losing to CoL on Boxing Day, so a much sterner test for us than our last game :zipper_mouth_face:

2-1 Albion, 653

Yeh buzzing after the Boxing Day rout :grinning:
Will be stiffer opposition but play the same as we did on Monday and we’ve every chance.

649 attendance I reckon

Witton begin the new year on Monday as they ended the old one with a derby game to look forward to, as they welcome Runcorn Linnets to the U Lock It Stadium in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

John Macken’s side have made excellent progress in recent weeks and are unbeaten in six league games, a run that has lifted them into the top ten and within sight of the play offs.

An excellent 4-1 win at neighbours 1874 Northwich on Boxing Day with a double from in-form striker Connor Hughes took Albion above their opponents and kept up the momentum.

Visitors Runcorn Linnets are currently in fourth place in the table but were surprisingly beaten at home by City of Liverpool FC in their last game.

The return fixture at The APEC Taxis Stadium on August Bank Holiday Monday, was a close affair played in front of nearly 700 spectators and was decided in Linnets favour by a late goal by former Albion defender Ally Brown.

The two clubs have a great history and have met on numerous occasions in all competitions through the years and have always had a friendship stretching back to Linnets sharing Witton’s stadium, until they were able to relocate to their town and indeed Witton opened Runcorn’s new stadium for them in a pre season friendly.

There will be a number of familiar faces lining up against John Macken’s team including the aforementioned Ally Brown, James Short, Lewis Doyle and Jamie Rainford so they will be looking to get the better of their former employers.

Witton are now building something and results are starting to come more consistently, and they will need to put in another performance of recent weeks in order to continue their push for the play offs.

I’ll be there as usual and predict a 2-1 win for the Albion. Hopefully a few missing Wittoners will be there to see the new and exciting football we now play. UTA

For information, the plan is to have 3 turnstiles open, all at the Wincham end of the ground.
At least one will have card payment facilities in addition to cash payments.

Hopefully over the lurgy and get to this one. The Linnets are tough to beat and we will have to repeat the boxing day form to win this.

Hard to change a winning team also but I’d be tempted to bring Barrow in if fully fit, and maybe Prince Haywood. Was he suspended for the last game? Good luck and come on You Wittoners get down to the game.

We are playing good football it’s a pleasure to watch. UTA

I’ve noticed a number of fans predicting the attendance for the game. With Linnets current league position and their form combined with the attendances they are attracting plus our improving form, I wouldn’t be surprised if we surpassed the Boxing Day attendence, or am I being too optimistic.

Hopefully you’re right, WHEELS! Can’t see us clearing 800 but certainly good to have plenty of local games with decent crowds.

Agree on starting Barrow. He just gives us a bit of extra bite in midfield.

You never know Wheels. Certainly playing some good football at the moment and fans are happy with Macken’s attacking football. Let’s get down in numbers. UTA
