Witton begin the new year as they ended the old one, with a derby fixture when they welcome Runcorn Linnets to the U Lock It Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Victory at 1874 Northwich on Boxing Day has given the team a renewed confidence and they will be determined to start the year in a positive manner.

Linnets have found form in recent weeks after a difficult start to the season and find themselves in second place in the table, having overcome fellow title challengers Prescot Cables recently.

The return meeting at the APEC Taxis Stadium in August, saw Linnets come out on top in an entertaining encounter but goals from Connor Hughes and Joe Duckworth proved to be no more than a consolation for the Albion.

Last season’s meetings saw the games go the way of the home side on each occasion with Runcorn edging the game at the APEC Taxis Stadium courtesy of Ally Brown’s goal.

The return meeting at the U Lock It Stadium a year ago to the day, saw Albion prevail in another exciting game with Joe Duckworth netting twice and further goals from Connor Hughes and Elliot Rokka, former Albion striker Jamie Rainford netting twice for Linnets.

Games of this nature are usually entertaining and eventful and this could prove to be no different.

Their will be a number of familiar faces on view in the game as Linnets have some in their squad with Witton connections namely, James Short, James Hooper & Lewis Doyle. Then there is also a familiar name in Adam Moseley whose dad Mike has legendary status at the club.

Witton face a tough challenge and will be hoping to continue their recent form and will have to be at their best to get the right result.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

Well done lads, nice to start the new year with a win. Hope we can put a run together. Also, great to keep a clean sheet.

Well done lads great performance could have and probably should have scored more! Gotta praise Macken for the turnaround in results recently. Well happy. UTA

What a good watch that was, cannot praise the team enough beat a very good side here and worthy of it.

Players from 1 to 11 deserve mom award for efforts alone! But we played well in possession and created more clear chances than Runcorn overall and our defence was outstanding.

Our goal was worthy of winning any match, great team play, crisp sharp passing and superbly finished by Newell after a great ball from Hughes brilliant!

Well played all keep it going. UTA

Fully deserved 3 points. Ben and Matty at the back were excellent but the three in Midfield are looking very good together.
