Witton Albion v. Runcorn Linnets

Bank Holiday brings derby football to the U Lock It Stadium as Witton take on Runcorn Linnets in a Northern Premier League West Division fixture.

The past two seasons has seen Linnets make the play offs but they have made a slow start to their campaign, and have also exited the Emirates FA Challenge Cup at the hands of Wythenshawe Town following a replay.

Witton have made an encouraging start to their season under caretaker manager Ben Harrison and will be looking to continue that form in the coming weeks.

The game could potentially be the first of five home games as Witton also have a home draw in both FA competitions, but they won’t be looking too far ahead and will focus on the game in front of them.

It is also the first of three games between the two clubs having drawn each other in the Cheshire Senior Cup as well.

The two teams met on the same day last season but Runcorn Linnets ran out 4-2 winners at the APEC Taxis Stadium however, Witton got the better of their opponents in the return meeting on New Year’s Day at the U Lock It Stadium.

A couple of familiar faces could figure in the Linnets squad in former Albion defender James Short and midfielder Lewis Doyle, as well as Adam Moseley son of Witton legend Mike and he will need watching carefully.

Another difficult test is to be expected and Witton will be hoping to pick up three more valuable points.

Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is 3pm.

Should be a cracker, always tough playing Linnets who have started slowly but I bet they end up in the play offs!

Probably be the same starting line up as Atherton, let’s get behind the lads with a decent gate.
